Well I'd like to start playing more limit hold 'em..of course I'm used to playing no limit so if anyone would like to help me out with the very basics, i.e. what type of hands to start out with, when to bet, when to raise, fold etc. and what bankroll I should have?

I'd appreciate any help.
Actuary
i'd start with a forum search...

after 300+ posts you probably know there's a search function.

also. Read SSHE.

you want an answer to your post?

in less than 3500 words??

Go buy Small Stakes Hold'em and become a regular on this forum. That's the best advice I can give you.

Not in a flaming mood right now. Plust, OP's a good guy, as I've seen most of his posts.
Actuary
you know
I have trouble with the search, too.
So many things are mentioned in each thread that I get 1000's of post back on every search.

Maybe i need to look into it more.

ok.

i'll provide something.

Have 300BB (that's Big Bets, not Big Blinds) in yuor Bankroll at what ever level you chose to play. For me..it's just good so that I don't play nervous.

Buy Poker Tracker to track your stats...just a guidance..not to play to target certain numbers

Get Gametime plus as well with PokerTracker..then you can overlay the opponents stats on the game...again..don't rely on this solely..and always use your human reading skills as well

Data Mine. Have PT running on as many tables that you can to collect data on future opponents. Yuo don't need to be playing for PT to work (at least not on Party)

Play Play Play
Post Hands.
Before posting a hand review it and see if its clearly an error...but if you can't see what you should have done or need confirmation..post it.

Again: Read SSHE

Be Aggressive....weak players at low limits will have much worse hands much more often than you think..let them pay you off

Respect Raises.. At lower limits a raise on the turn from someone who's been calling the whole way..usually is a sign that TP is beat...

Play much tighter the more OOP you are, except from the blinds

Yuo can't bet enough in Limt to keep good draws (or bad draws, actually) from chasing, whether they do it correctly or not. This is no reason not to bet. Push your edges. Suckouts happen. But you will win more $$$.

Big Pots are worth playing more loosely and agrressively.

Small pots are not worth much...don't get crazy in them

Small stakes players call a lot..bluffing not real useful. Maybe if pot is big, and 4th flush card comes, a river riase bluff could work..generall bluffing is useless.

better?
cool
good luck

Thanks, I do appreciate your help Actuary.

Actuary has covered it pretty well in a nutshell, I'll just add my 2 cents.

You can't push opponents around like you can in NL. You bet for value. Since you can't put a bunch of money in the pot at the end, you have to get bets in each street. Miss a bet, and the pot's that much smaller, you can't make it up. That means in general you play draws a little more aggressively.
Do not overvalue big pocket pairs. You still raise with them, but that's to get money in when you're ahead, not as much to knock players out because you often won't. Your big pairs will get drawn out on sometimes, so be able to fold them.
Don't slow play, you'll just miss bets.
Hardly ever bluff. You won't often succeed (unless you find some rock gardens).

Strangely enough I'm going to suggest you avoid SSHE in the short run. Get Ed Miller's "Getting Started In Holdem" first. While I know you're an experienced player, find out where Miller's coming from first. Even though I was beyond the "getting started" stage, GSIHE still taught me a few things. Akishore can back me up on this.

there are so many posts like this. not to be a dick head or anything, but use the search function.

also, search for strat posts. This place has been around for a while, if you'd believe it.

actually we should pimp our own posts. 93, search for Chris and I's 5K race logs, there is a lot of good stuff about playing solid aggressive poker in there
