I think you can feel more confident about this since you had position and he led at you immediately AFTER your flop raise. It's not like you checked and asked him to take it from you... good play.

were they tag players?

raising the flop is ok against passive players because you can take the lead. But against aggro guys i think call/call/call would be better.
