Full Version: a question of style (daniel's opinion would be cool)

I wanted people to evaluate my holdem style. I play a very LAGgy, strong style and was struck by it's similarities to Hellmuth's definition of "Megalomaniac." I call or raise a lot with suited connectors, small pairs, offsuited connectors, or nothing at all because simply said, I can outplay them later. That being said, I can fold Queens, Kings, and A-K preflop, and make calls with an underpair. I know I have good instincts- is this style right?

question is kind of like asking who your favorite hockey team is...its all based on opinon. Of corse there is a correct way to play each of the styles. But you play the way you feel comfertable, and if your winning who can argue? As for folding AK preflop? i can see a few scenario's were a guy would..but on average..thats not a folding hand.

I meant unde special circumstances, not, "Oh, it's a raise to me, I'd better fold." I mean, if it's three raises, you're certain to be facing aces or kings. Same with queens or kings. Not very often, but it happens.

We have no idea what limit your are playing, what game you are playing.

This is the most vague question ever since we don't know either of those.

Also, I suppose you would know if it is right for the games you choose based on a lot of hands and your bottom line, your profits.

You must be talking about no limit since you said you can fold kings and queens preflop and that would just be silly in limit hold'em. In no limit, you are often getting implied odds to play hands like suited connectors preflop. But you need to play well postflop to do this.

Also pay attention to your opponents stack sizes. For example, it's not worth playing 76s against someone with 10BB because even when you hit your straight flush, you won't get paid enough.

You probably also believe there is no santa claus.

Loser.

Well, I'm obviously joking, I know you're not dumb enough to think there is no santa claus. ;-)
