Only played about 30 hands with MP1, his vp$ip 40, pfr% was 13, again though only 30 hands. Don't think I seen any of his hands at showdown.

I felt I had the best hand, not sure if I played right though. I should probably have 3 bet pf, and lead the flop. To be honest I was having a bad session and got a little gun shy pre flop. I felt this was a good flop for me to
a) have the best hand
cool.gif look like I had something on the board from the sb.

Thoughts?

Do I bet the river or check/call?

three bet PF and lead the flop, hand plays much different.

considering how you played it, I'd check call. It'd induce a lesser Ace high hand to bet at it

i don't like the call preflop (three-bet).

with ace-high on the river against your average player, you typically want to check/call. he's not going to call with anything worse than ace-high, right? and he's not going to fold any pair or better, right?

so why bet?

check and hope for a free showdown against a better hand or for a bluff from a worse hand.

Agreed. Definitely think you should take control of the hand preflop with A-K, as it will give you extra ammo if the board blanks out on you. That way you can hopefully represent a big pocket pair and maybe get your opponent to lay down a small pair or draw. BTW, was it Sklansky who said that you should always reraise with A-K? Don't remember.
