Me and Custom started talking about JJ in cash games, I play mostly 1/2 and 2/4, Custom plays 2/4 and 3/6.

We have both got a lot of experience at low levels and have done a lot of reading at limit poker and had an interesting conversation about how to play JJ. The conversation basically focusses on whether calling, or capping after being 3-bet is the best way to play JJ.

Summary of Debate:
JJ bet in early-mid position, raised by later position, everyone folds, action is on you heads up with the 3-bettor.

Summary of Transcript :

Hoobiee :
Cap Preflop, Bet out flop.
Coinflip with AK, AQ, KQ, only losing to AAKKQQ.
If you bet out most of time a better hand is raising you and you can change accordingly.
Even though coinflip with AK, AQ, KQ, you will outflop them 65-70% of the time.
Improves image as aggressive / good player.

Custom36 :
Less likely to raise you if you have capped preflop when they are ahead on flop.
You'll be wasting more bets when you get called down by a Q K or A than you'll lose if you only 3-bet

We couldn't agree on this and wonder what other people think on the subject.

all right. I'm not reading the whole transcript, but I take it you're aruging about capping JJ preflop.

I'd cap against a maniace, but if it's 3 cold to me preflop and the 3-bettor is tight, I would fold. JJ doesn't fair well against a normal range of 3-betting hands.

if its 3 cold to me with jacks i just call...i probably play under the theory of a good player is going to only 3 bet with ak or higher...now i am a realist too and know that people at low limits cap with k9 and k4 suited (yes my aces and queens went down to both) but i will give them the benefit of the doubt preflop and only call a 3 bet. if the flop is low i may test them with a raise and if they again 3 bet...as long as no over card comes ill check/call it down

OP has been fixed. It's easy to read now.

In E/MP wouldn't cap very often facing a 3-bet from LP. In fact, I wouldn't cap very often with JJ at all. Unless I flop a set, I'm most likely to bet/fold. Aside from the fact that any A, K, Q on the flop turns JJ to crap, I also have to worry about a middle pair (like JJ is) flopping a set. So I'd have to be wary of 10, 9, and maybe 8 coming on the flop - if I'm raised after betting out on the flop. I may peel on off if I think my opp. could have AK, but I'm starting to put bets in I'm likely to lose.

anyone?

With no reads, I'm just calling the 3-bet and check raising a non-threatening flop.

With no reads, I'm just calling the 3-bet and check raising a safe flop. If the flop comes with 1 overcard, I'm check/calling. With 2-3 overcards I usually bet out and fold if raised.

I think I'd just call the 3bet and see the flop. The thing is most players will rarely 3bet AK(atleast at these limits) so its likely your up against another pp. If you flop a set great if an overpair flops you can still easily get away from the hand or atleast not lose as much as you are likely to.

However as usual it depends on the person who 3 bet it. If they raise loosely I might consider a re-raise if they are a tight player I'd call.
