Full Version: elements of a (variance) downswing

Historically, I'm very vulnerable to tilt. I'd like to think I've pretty much corrected this. Part of what has helped me is to find the elements of a variance downswing so I'm listing a few here and hopefully, I'll get a few others.

Here's a few:

1) You miss regularly with AK.
2) Your flop 4 flushes, draw with correct odds and miss.
3) You play small/mid pocket pairs, and consistently (and I'm talking 15+ times in a row) don't hit your set.
4) You have KK or QQ and AK chases you to the river and hits an A.
5) You have 99 or 1010, raise properly, get favorable flops, and keep betting it. Only to find out that your opponent had 1010 or JJ.

Anybody else have any suggestions for this list?

when you lose to a set over a set. That has probably cost me more money than AA.

The list of downswing elements could go on forever. For long downswings, you can do some analysis of your PT stats to see how far they deviate from long-run averages. For example, have you not been getting pocket pairs very often? Have your sets been beaten by flushes more than they should?

But ultimately you just have to play through your downswings. Be confident that you're a winning player and don't change your play. Rather than look for elements of a variance downswing, it might be more prudent to look for elements of a tilt downswing if you're experiencing a prolonged drought.

Don't have a list of tilt elements yet, but maybe I'll come up with one. And remember passive tilt is just as bad (and in some games worse) than aggressive tilt.

And there, in one sentence, is my biggest leak. Especially playing at .25/.50, that just kills me. That and FPS.
