I was gonna choose Michael Chiklis as one of my five. His performance as Vic Mackey is raw and powerful, one of the finest examples of acting ever commited to screen (cinema or TV). In my opinion The Shield is the finest American TV drama. I can't wait for season four.

However, as I've only seen Chiklis in The Shield and one episode of Seinfeld :-) I decided not to choose him.

Also, don't you think Walton Goggins out-acts the lot of them? I'd have to pick him ahead of Jay Karnes.

I see what you are saying. They are joint fourth on your list, yes? It looked like you were saying you couldn't choose them both.

I do think Karnes has better chops then Goggins, but I pick him because I like him better.

Glen Close did a great job too.

I live in England so season four is yet to air. I was aware that she was appearing, but don't be spoiling any of that shit for me :-)
