I've been playing poker for quite a long time recently and play No Limit currently for profit. Just recently, I have been put to the test with my skills. I play with huge blinds and am playing against a HUGELY super aggressive maniac. This is one I haven't seen before... its as if he is playing tournament poker but in money games (bound to go broke I know thats why im playing with him). Anyways, on to the story. I've read the books and understand that check/calling is the best move to make against such a player(sandbagging doesnt work too much). However, (perhaps i may be playing with scared $ but I do not want to miss the opportunity at these tables where there are 70% fish including this maniac), I haven't gotten it to work. I'm not sure what the problem is and im looking for advice if anyone has ever come accross this in a point in their poker career. I'm not exactly sure what hands to play although I realize the way to make $ against him (and people like myself) is to play marginal hands that are better ... I.E. KQ vs KJ. I myself am also a very smart loose aggressive maniac and I know when to put on the brakes but this guy has no brakes at all!! For example, playing at a no limit table where you are sitting with maybe 2-3 thousand at least. This guy puts you all in almost everytime he is in the pot, playing unpredictable hands and of course is getting lucky his fair share of the time! should I stay away from him while he is on a lucky streak because he thinks he can catch anything? What exactly am I to do. Well I'm glad Ive come accross this type of player early in poker because I know I'll surely find a few down the road. Any tips are appreciated. And believe me when i say this, I haven't been tested so much in my life to my money-- its an undescribable feeling that I hope everyone gets to experience in their lifetime so that they too will become better poker players. All in all, its only a matter of time before he goes broke as I've seen him lose way more $ than he has began to win even though the swings are huge and any1 that plays tournament poiker in a money game will eventually become broke. Thanks for your time.

Also, Im not talking about just a guy who goes all in all the time. I'm talking about a decent poker player who knows what he is doing.

You play no limit for profit?

he's a fish?? he know's what he is doing?? pretty vague...
i've played some ub high limit nl and the 10/20 5/10 at stars and have come across some players who play very very aggressive, then slow down, then change... but during their aggressive runs are similar to the guy you described. I would like to know the answer also... seems like i open up my game
for instance, call a 4xbb raise with aq or something of the sort, pick up a solid flop, tptk for instance and somehow he always has a set or the dreaded overpair. Anyways I would say to open up and play as loose as them. When you tighten up and finally play back at them they know when they are beat and wont pay you off, but if they hold a strong hand they'll be able to get you to commit your whole stack. So if you feel you have an edge over this player then I would suggest opening up... you might lose a buyin, but with the way that you describe the guy playing you shouldn't be worried about 1buy in as you should be paid off handsomely if you are in fact a better player then him, but without you giving action back at him you are basically letting him know when you're holding anything..

(sorry kinda rambling, but basically just a SS2 approach, be as aggressive as him w/o going "all in every hand ur involved in" as u said)...
let me know where my logic is faulty as I would like to sharpen up in these situations also
