im re-reading HEPFAP and just started it. David Sklansky talks about "The First Two Cards: Early Position" and says to be prepared to play the "group 1" through "group 4" hands.
I almost skipped over this section because I believe my preflop strategy to be sound, but a few of the hands DS says are playable cought my attention.
Obviously, we are raising all "group 1" hands (AA-JJ, AKs)
Same with "group 2" hands (TT, AQs, AJs, KQs, and AK)
"group 3" hands was a no brainer, too...raise 99, KJs, ATs, and AQ...limp with JTs and QJs.
"group 4" hands threw me a curve ball. Raise KQ and AJ...duh. 88 is 50/50 between raise and call. QTs and KTs are easy limps. But he advocates limping with T9s, 98s, and J9s as well. That seems crazy to me. I muck these 100% of the time and sleep good at night.
He also says if the game is good, hand like 87s and 76s are playable up front.
why does SSHE say 87s is a fold up front in the loose games and HEPFAP says it's playable? Does HEPFAP expect better postflop skills?
