Your "friend" should post this in the bad beat section.

its not a bad beat.

how would you play it?

i say re-raise pre flop and ger K5 to fold

or at lease bet the flop, dont give him a chance to make a move on you,

I probably wouldn't reraise AJ, although I definitely would call the min raise. If the player is weak, then I would reraise preflop.

On the flop, bet around 600. I don't mind calling the other guy's all-in since he has a short stack and might do this with any ace.

I would reraise preflop but either optiom ( call or raise) is all right. I would have bet out on the flop, though. the only reason for checking would be to checkraise and given the other guy's short stack, that makes no sense. as for how much, he should have bet all-in because any other amount would commit the other player (if called) so it wouldnt make sense.

The flop check sucks.

The rest is bad luck.
