FullTilt $1/$2

Preflop: econ_tim.
econ_tim 1 fold, MP1 calls, 2 folds, SB calls, BB folds.

[b]Flop:
(6 SB) [Kh 2h Ac]
SB checks, econ_tim MP1 calls, SB folds.

[b]Turn:
(4 BB) [9h]
econ_tim MP1 calls.

[b]River:
(6 BB) [3d]
[b]econ_tim folds.

Final pot: 8 BB

Should I have checked river? I think it was a mistake since MP1 shouldn't be calling me with any hands that I beat and that he would cold call with preflop (except maybe TT). I'm so used to value betting, but I guess I need to think about it sometimes.

Just my opinion, but I never like the idea of folding to a raise on the river when its heads up.

I didn't like it either, but I hadn't seen MP1 get out of line, and what hand that he raises could I beat?

If he thinks he can get you to fold on the river just by raising, he could raise you with anything. And by the way, I've seen people try that move before with nothing because it looks like such an obvious slow play. Since almost anyone would call that one extra bet, it looks like he's trying to get maximum value. He's hoping you know this ( basically over thinking the game) and will try to make that "great lay down" when in fact you will fold the best hand. Not saying he was doing this here, but I've seen people try it.

But really, if you're gonna fold to raise on the river in that situation, dont bet in the first place.

BTW, calling the extra bet might be just worth it to look him up

I don't see bluff river raises often enough at my site to justify a call. But I agree that I shouldn't have bet out. Like I said, MP1 is not an evil poker genius.

Not to be a jerk, but I am curious why you were not concerned earlier when you were called before and after the flop? I ask because I hate that hand (JJ) and with two over cards on the board and a potential flush facing me, I probably would have checked the turn. I wish I could be more inclined to bet out, but that hand hates me and I probably do not play it too well. Just curious.

Your line on this guy is a TAGish?

If he's a TAG I think your line might be fine on 4th, but I'm check calling on the river in this situation, You gotta know you're behind to any potential hand he'd call with.

What hands do you put him on there? AK, AQ, AJ, QQ, JJ or TT?

Even if you throw a few more hands in there... you're not gonna win this hand much against that player sad.gif
