sat at a table that had 3 on it, was doing pretty good. A few more showed up, when these 2 hands happened. Not really worried about the first, but I think I overplayed the 2nd...

AKo in BB. A couple limpers, I raise, 3 callers.

Flop is 2 9 10 rainbow. SB bets, I raise, 2 limpers fold, SB calls. Turn is a 10, SB bets, I fold. He shows JJ.

Not really worried about that, but any criticism accepted.

The very next hand...

JJ in SB. 1 limper, I raise, BB calls, limper folds.

Flop is x x K. I bet, BB raises, I 3-bet, BB calls.

Turn is a Q. I bet, BB raises, I call.

River is a blank, I check/fold. BB shows KQ

I understand these are coinflips where my side didn't hit. But I think I overplayed the second hand. I figured it as a raise/fold situation after he raised my flop bet, but I could be wrong. Any opinions?

I think you definitely overplayed the JJ, as most people do. There is no reason to 3-bet the flop there. If he's going to raise on that board, you assume he has the K (assuming no big draws). I think after you raised on the flop, you should have dumped it right there. The only other option would be calling one small bet on the flop to try to spike a J and win a huge pot. I think it's really obvious he had the K, and you have to be willing to laydown your JJ.

Hand one...just call the flop bet and see what develops on the turn. Raising with AK high is spewing

Hand two...don't three bet with your jacks here. Just call the raise, and probably reluctantly fold on the turn

My thinking in the second hand....he just saw me the very hand before raise the SB's bet with AK high, then fold on the turn. He seemed to be a decent player from the few hands I had seen him play, and I figured he thought I was doing that again this hand, so he was raising hoping I missed. Thinking about it now, a 3-bet is bad because he's folding if I already have him beat and he's probably not laying down a K. His raise on the turn basically told me he had 2 pair, but I call because I think aside from the 2 J's I had a gutshot bc there was a 9 on board as well.

I busted a few hands later, started to go to bed, but it was bothering me that I only misplayed one or two hands. I realized I only bought in for the minimum and was playing like it, so I doubled that and made my money back, plus a few bucks.

Reads would help a lot.

No reads, the flop lay with JJ isn't bad, but that's what it is, a play.

You can fold the turn.

He should have smothed called in position and raised your likely river bet.

yeah i didn't have much of a read on him except that he didn't seem like a total donk. I was going by what his view of me would have been and that was probably a bad idea unless I had played a lot more with him.

the 2nd hand..

I would probably have played it the same until the turn, where I would have folded to a raise
