I'm one of the few who didn't like even like it that much, her being the first chick director to win best picture was a big deal I think. Avatar was beautiful but it was crap as far as story lines go, still stunning and immersive though.
Inglorious basterds was my favorite film of the year.
I feel kind of the same about Avatar as you do, except I think I likd it a bit more. I'm not usually a fan of 'big event' movies like this, but I was thouroughly entertained for the entire length of the movie. I thought the 3d was pretty amazing as well.
Inglorious basterds was also my favourite movie of the year though (of the last few years, in fact). I've already watched it 4 times.
I am very surprised that Avatar didn't win best picture though.
