http://www.armchairpools.com/ will track the stats for us for a 5$ fee for the entire pool, so we'll go with them. I will collect the money as of now, once you send me your payment I will send you your invite to the league. 20$ per person sent via paypal to kevin_gendron@hotmail.com , payment by paypal is by far the preferred method for me and most people here seem comfortable with it now.
Draft Date
we should have it close to the start of the Games (Feb 14th) in case of injuries or what not. How about 9:00 PM EST, Thursday Feb 11th.

Isn't it though. Well I think I am fairly the same online and offline. I can be sarcastic but I try not to pull that off online as it is usually taken the wrong way. But serge can be unbearable at times here but he was a great guy in person, not at all like his online self.
Zach though, he is still a bitch online and off.

Here's how I thought it would go : Draft about 100 players total, G and A worth 1 point each, no goalies, no limitations on number of FW or D.

Not saying I don't like your idea but I think we should throw out ideas and see what we can come up with.
My idea: we have to pick at least ____ players from every team. I think this will increase the interest in the games involving lesser teams...like the USA
Zach6668
Thursday, January 28th, 2010, 1:55 PM
We had a whole thread where we talked about ideas, and everyone who voiced their opinions said they'd like to see it mirror the playoff pool we do, where it's goals and assists only.

I like the idea of just goals and assists. And the thought of some of us cheering and hoping that Konstantin Koltsov picked up an assist on the lone Belarus goal makes me a little giddy.
How about something like 60 players each. A max of 5 players from 1 team. You must pick at least 3 players from each of the 12 (?) teams. This should help prevent ties and make
every game interesting.
Zach6668
Thursday, January 28th, 2010, 2:03 PM
That would be pretty interesting. That way we don't have to coordinate for a draft, it'd just be like the old newspaper pools I used to do in Thunder Bay where you pick one player per group.

Id really much rather prefer a live draft style.
But I also like Dale's idea of taking from all teams somehow.
We do something like this for one of my playoff pools, where we each pick 1 player from each team, but this is done with a live draft, so once youve taken Datysuk, Detroit is off for you, and so on.
digitalmonkey
Thursday, January 28th, 2010, 2:16 PM
Perhaps the first thing we need to agree on is whether or not each player can only be on one team. If I draft Konstantin Koltsov is he unavailable to everyone else?

That's how it was going to be, exactly like the playoff draft.
Co was saying 100 players total, so 8 or 10 each depending on how many people we have in the pool.
coesillian
Thursday, January 28th, 2010, 10:27 PM
i don't like when people have duplicate players, I think drafting is the preferred method here.
There is something macho about drafting. It feels more degenerate. It feels right.
If each team had to draft at least 1 player from each country then we could draft at most 2 players from the same country. We could either set a min of 1 and a max of 2 or simply a max of 2.
or no min and max at all.
Zach6668
Friday, January 29th, 2010, 5:08 AM
1 player from each country would be so ridiculous, we'd be seeing 4th liners from Norway...
gruven
Friday, January 29th, 2010, 5:19 AM
I like the 'no more than 3 from any one team. Then you have to decide whether a canadian or russian 3rd liner is worth more or less than a swiss centre.
Zach6668
Friday, January 29th, 2010, 5:30 AM
You're going to have to do that anyways. You really think in a 10 team snake draft you'll be able to get better than 2 top 6 Canadian forwards ever?
Even if you took the entire roster for Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden (which you won't always do), you're still left with 20 guys to split up from the other teams.
Do we have 10 or 12 entrants in this? If we have 12, and taking 10 players each, the min/max will sort itself out without having to be specified.

coesillian
Friday, January 29th, 2010, 9:51 AM
we're 11 teams.
There are 145 NHL'ers participating in the Olympics out of about 270 I believe.
we could have 12 players on each team for a total of 132 players drafted if we wanted to.
Zach6668
Friday, January 29th, 2010, 9:53 AM
That sounds about right. You're definitely going to forego some NHLers for KHL and SELers in some case too, it leaves some decisions up to us, and we won't completely ignore non-NHL players.
132 players is a lot in this format, when there's such a steep drop off after the top 4 or 5 teams, or so.

Just confirming my entry and that my money will be shipped shortly.
I am ok with any format, as long as the draft is held past 9 if on a week night.
Has any betting site come up with the odds for each team to win this thing yet?

I do too, in a 11 team snake you're not going to get more than 3 players from the elite teams anyway, and if you do more power to you.
We're overthinking this. Let's just get 11 guys together to snake draft 12 players apiece (no doubles or anything like that, once Crosby is gone he's gone) and we'll see who wins.
