Full Version: Who Will Win The Art Ross?

With all the injuries to the top players in the league Ovy,Malkin , Kovalchuk and others its an interesting race this year.

Looks like Ovechkin's injury isnt as serious as he first "joked", but will he win the title.

Malkin might be too far back by the time he comes back.

Crosby, well he isnt scoring anywhere near his pace of years past and seems like he wont be a factor.

Can Kopitar continue his torrid pace?
Can Gaborik stay healthy all year to challenge?
Will it be Joe Thornton's turn?

Or will someelse step up and take the title?

My bet is that Ovechkin wont miss too many games and come back and take the title.

I have to agree. With all the injuries in Vancouver he has the change to step up and carry that team. Can I change my pick?

Really? I mean I guess Moulson has been known to be one and Mitchell sure can but Chimera has always seemed like a standup guy.

Yeah, that punk Crosby is on a pace to score only 40 goals...Fucking slacker.

How about Kaberle for Norris? :-D

At the risk of upsetting the masses...

Crosby is a very good player, however he isnt an elite player that should be mentioned with the League's greats of all time.

I have mentioned this before...He is a great talent, but he is no Gretzky,Lemieux, Ovechkin...Yes its true..

While he did win a Stanley Cup, he wasnt even the best player on his team.

Its all downhill from here, unless he ends up in Toronto as a free agent down the line..

Que the Penguino backlash in 3 2 ------1

Sorry to Zach, Dev, Flyer and all the other Pens faithful but I pray that Sid ends up as a LEaf at some point just so I can watch serge do a 180 on his opinion of him. tongue.gif

I don't think Calgary plays the style that would allow Iginla to get the 110+ points he would need.

I was thinking about this on the way home from hockey tonight. What if Alex Ovechkin and Wayne Gretzky were fortunate enough to be on the same team, does that mean Ovechkin is not an elite player?

I actually think this would be hilarious. Tons of lol potential. I was thinking though, right now, I can't even come up with a package from Toronto that would make it worth trading Crosby there. That's how bad that team is.

I'm pretty sure the city of Toronto would have to give up half its hottest chicks to the GM and assistant GM of the Penguins or something like that. Otherwise, it'd just be every pick for the next 4-5 years, Kaberle, and a lot of begging.

Well I wouldnt trade any one of our players for a guy who hasnt gotten a point in 5 straight games...is a minus 6 and led his team to 4 out of 5 losses...

I guess its pretty obvious who the MVP on that team is...

I have no problem saying Malkin is the better player, that's definitely up for debate, but this team is missing FAR more than just Malkin. Don't forget Gonchar, Kennedy, Talbot, Letang, and now Orpik. Plus Guerin sucks now, and Staal also isn't scoring at all.

All of the secondary scoring threats are gone and teams are keying on Sid.

Obviously he's underperforming, but I don't think it's particularly surprising given the injuries in Pittsburgh right now. Neither are the losses.

You didn't really answer my question though. And LOL at saying you wouldn't trade anyone for Crosby. That's just absurd.

I still don't see how him not being the MVP of his team has anything to do with him being elite or not, by any definition. Maybe he isn't elite, I'm ok with that, it's just that your basis for the argument is faulty, that's all.

I'm not. IMO you can get away with saying he's over-hyped but he's also elite for sure. The problem with Crosby lately is that he's a playmaker who's powerplay is horrible without Gonchar/Malkin and on a team that has allowed 11 opposition goals since their last. Overall missing Malkin, Gonchar, Talbot, Kennedy, and Orpik is not great for a team. Playing the last two games mostly with 5 defenseman (and against Boston one of the 5 was a guy playing in his first NHL game) certainly doesn't help either.

I'm not sure if any pens will challenge for the art ross this year but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run at it. Kopitar is beastly, but at this point I still think it's Ovechkin's to lose, even with his injury.

I'm absolutely stunned!! Bob's contribution to a hockey discussion is limited to mentioning Big M's players!! WOW! How unexpected!!!!

Or maybe the 3 players at the top of the NHL scoring race.

Hard to blame the guy, its always hard having a discussion about the best players in the NHL, WITHOUT naming a Big M.
Increibly, only 2 of those guys are on his roster. Usually would be all 3.

Sick team.

Could use some depth though. One more really good forward and a top D. icon_biggrin.gif

Crosby is playing hurt. I don't think he's been the same ever since that nasty shot he took to the knee a week and a half ago, or so. IMO.

You make good points.. But most teams right now have injuries, and to major players..

My argument like Dev mentioned is that he is over hyped...Not his fault my any means...Crosby is a great player...One of the best in the league..However i dont think he is "elite"..Not like Gretzky, not like Lemieux and not even like Yzerman and Sakic....He had the luxury of playing on a great team with great players and he was a big part of the Stanley cup..

We can argue this all day and we wont get anywhere...Bottom line is obviously he wont be winning the Art Ross this year..
Orcasgt22
Dustin Penner wins it this year.
Everyone else that is better then him is hurt, hes not. That should give him an advantage!
