What a completely ridiculous story/event.

I find it slightly odd and intruiging that this sentence is given no further explanation:

The report also says that Moore hurt his arm during the scuffle and tried to wipe the blood on the officer.

What a ridiculous story.

My default position on ridiculous stories is that they aren't giving us all the information that would make the story seem, well, less ridiculous.

If it's the police report (which it seems to be), it would be considered assault.

Can't just let any geriatric into your club to play tennis without proper identification.

What's the point of the 20+ committees in the average private club if you do that?

bingo, totally agree.

I found another version of the story. Sounds to me like the old man went bonkers when they denied his fake card.

http://www.kpho.com/news/21406557/detail.html

Morell said he had been using a photocopied version of his card because it was more convenient. He said he didn’t understand why it was such a big deal.

O’Grady said it’s a well known rule that Sun City West residents need to present their recreation cards to use the community’s facilities.

“At some point, you have to enforce the rules. We tried over three different notifications to this person that he had to have his real (recreation) card. It's a private community and you've got to have some control over who's using the facilities,” said O’Grady.

The men became verbally abusive and physically confrontational, so employees called the sheriff's office, O'Grady said.

"We have to watch out for the safety of our employees and our residents," said General Manager Mike Whiting. "Physical assaults are not tolerated on our property."

And it's not like the staff should recognize any long terms members...they're old people. They all look alike.

BTW since this happened at a Sun City, you can guarantee that the GM will be fired or resign. These old people literally have tons of time to make his life miserable, and they enjoy doing it.

So brush up your resume Mr Whiting, you are going job hunting.

I guess what I was interested in was the motivation behind trying to wipe his blood on the officer, but I suppose it's kind of self-explanatory. 1. He had to wipe it somewhere, and he felt the cop certainly deserved to have his jacket ruined more than he himself did, and 2. Nobody likes having blood wiped on them (okay, some people do), and he did not like this officer and wanted to get even.

You thought about BigD here, didn't you.

As for the blood thing, I think it can be used by cops to justify their use of force in subduing a suspect. It's easy to claim, near impossible to disprove and when you're taking down junkies and dealers and whores, it certainly has a more sinister tone than when you're physically restraining octogenarians.
speedz99
Does anyone really think that these guys didn't deserve to get arrested? I mean, the vast majority of cops want nothing less than to have to file a bunch of paperwork about angry senior citizens. I'm sure the guys (or at least one of them) was totally unruly and abusive towards the employee, and then was inappropriate enough with the cop to leave him/her no choice. It's like the black dude in boston from a few months ago...you're just not allowed to be an ******* to police officers. You certainly can't get physical with them in any way. These guys aren't octogenarian Rodney Kings, they're obnoxious old assholes that think they're above having to follow any rules.
Balloon guy

You guys don't understand.

They never lunge for the ball, their games take forever, and they smell up the locker room afterwards with all the ben gay etc.

They are a menace on the tennis courts.

They are the menace cong.

And, "He has a lawyer. Well, a retired lawyer.''

Speaking of blood. When I was at Fry's yesterday, they were selling a protein supplement that looked and tasted like real blood with all the nutrients of blood. It had a picture of a sexy vampire chick on the front.

I have no idea what to do with this information.
