I sort of hate how this hand went from a home game tournament I played last night. Figured I'd ask for comments.

Starting stack is about 4k, villain has maybe 8k. Blinds 100/200.

There's 3 limpers including villain on the button. Villain is a fairly LAG player who I've played with a lot before.

I'm in the BB with 24o and check.

Pot going to the flop is 800.

Flop is:
Js 2s 5x

Checked around

Turn is: 2x

I lead 650 into the pot, only called by the button limper

Pot: 2100, my remaining stack is 3.4k

Rivers is: 5s

For a final board of: Js 2s 5x 2x 5s

Here's my tough spot. Do I value bet this river? The flush got there, but we're ahead of that. But we can't beat a random 5.

B/f for about 1/2 pot.

Flushes and even some Jx will look you up, the case 2 will never raise here, and you will never get bluff raised IMO. I dont hate c/c, but b/f seems to extract more value because baby flushes or Jx are more likely to call a bet than they are likely to bet when checked to.

So, I bet out 1050, which is exactly 1/2 pot.

Now, my issue here is that I'm in an awkward spot. I've committed 1900 chips to a now 6600 pot. If I fold, I have 2.4k behind at 100/200, which is playable, but small. I did fold, but I felt really "meh" about my 1/2 pot on the river afterwards.

Any reads on villain since you play with him a lot? I think the b/f line is good here, for the reasons Swolys gave above. The only thing I don't like is your bet sizing. Too big of a bet on the river is going to put you in an awkward situation like this, where you feel like you need to hero call and catch a naked J or flush, but know you're toast to the higher boat.

Put out a bet of 650-750, it will serve the same purpose as your 1/2 PSB without risking as much if you're forced into folding.

Of course, if you have solid reads on this guy, the river goes totally different. If he's crazy and won't fold AJ assuming you're looking weak and couldn't have a 5 or 2 (yes, I know you're in the BB and can have ATC, but villain may not understand this point), you snap this off.

From a reads perspective, it's challenging. The guy is competent, but he'll make plays that can get him large stacks or out early. I'm almost certain that a naked-J is a call from him (even AJ) not a raise. Given the limps to the button, it's not unreasonable to expect him to have the flush, a 5 or a 2. I can guarantee he doesn't have complete air.

There's a reason I said bet/fold.

Your bet was a little too big for my taste because now you feel committed. Villain is never bluff raising in this spot, and 90% of the time he will not raise 2x. If you want to call and see a showdown, then check the river. B/f >>> c/c >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> b/c.
