Anybody watch the premiere last night? Apparently well received by the critics. I thought it was decent, earned at least a view next week to see how it starts to take shape. I heard it being compared to "Lost", but I never watched that show so I can't say if it was similar.
Poppy_Hillis
Eff this show. Saying Kobe is going to tear up his knee. This is just like Lost, they're never going to tell you anything, they'll keep stringing it along as long as the morons are still watching.

I really hope the Lakers don't play on April 29.

You are aware Lost's last season is next year?

I have been rewatching Lost from the beginning since they are all on hulu, they have answered actually quite a bit.

I have at least a passing interest in the show. Seems like there could be some potential. I do have a similar concern to Poppy's which was exacerbated when, in the preview for next week, the announcer says "Next week, more answers...." In my experience, when a show teases "answers" it means they're going to give an answer to a rather insignificant question and/or the "answer" is going to raise more questions than it resolves.

Which is a good thing because that means we will be interested and want to keep watching rather than having conclusions in episode 2 of a show that hopefully takes a few seasons to tell, like lost.

This show is going to be VERY good.

Lost is going on what, season 6... and there is still unexplained shit from season 1 & 2, it's why I quit watching. Lost is way overrated.

I am all the way through season 2 and I can't honestly think of anything that I saw that doesn't NOW make sense to me to be quite honest. I thought I had many more questions but now going through it, I am amazed at how much has been answered and seeing all the set ups for the later seasons.
bdc30
One thing I didn't like was in the last 15 minutes or so, it started to feel forced, like they were trying to squeeze too much in to the last moments of the show. Really did the daughter NEED to have the friendship bracelet made instantly? Did we need to find out the identity of the wife's mystery man??

Other than that I thought it was really good.

Smoke monster.

This show is based on a book by Robert Sawyer, called, you guessed it, Flash Forward. Great book. Not sure if the show will go the same direction as the book or not, but at least there is a place for some answers already.

Similar author style to Michael Chrichton

And yet, I don't know anybody who currently watches LOST that is annoyed by a lack of an explanation. To be honest, I don't even think the smoke monster needs that much more explaining.

On-topic: This show looks pretty interesting, but I forgot to set my DVR so I missed it. I'm sure it's online somewhere.

They have had 3 seasons to get to it and haven't, so I'm willing to bet it's completely slipped the writers minds. If they do explain feel free to let me know because I'm not going to bother watching it.

They're replaying it tonight at 8pm. I might catch it at 11 on the west channels.

Please leave Lost out of this thread. Go babble in the Lost thread. I think the only correlation the teasers made with Lost was "From the NETWORK that brought you lost"

I loved this show last night. Thought it was great. Which basically means it will be canceled in 5 episodes with my history concerning new shows.

My jaw dropped when they showed the one dude at the ballgame who was awake during the blackout. Awesome little teaser.

I understand that they have to pack enough into the pilot to get ratings, but I agree with this. It seems like there was a lot thrown into the whole episode that they could have stretched a bit more throughout a season. Still, it was definitely intriguing enough for me to watch again.

One thing I really didn't like with the replay tonight (not sure if they did it last night since I only saw the first 20 minutes or so) was the "reminders" at each commercial break to remember certain parts of the episode. If certain details are going to be important later on, the impact of their importance is severely diminished if we have ABC reminding us to take note of them.

I don't remember them doing this last night.... they do that shit with Lost re-runs also.

Yeah, he did just fine. Anybody else in that role and I wouldn't give it a second thought. But as soon as I recognized him, I couldn't stop thinking about all the voices he does on Family Guy. Basically, what I'm saying is if his character becomes important I'll expect him to deliver a line as Stewie at some point.
gobears

Great first episode - should be interesting to see if they can keep up the momentum.

And I really hope this doesn't become another The Nine or Journeyman situation where they cancel the show before the end of the first season. Guess I'll have to watch the ratings to make sure it'll make it.

I dont think it is overrated anymore, it was overrated post season 2-3... now, you know what to expect

Well, now that I have watched the show, it is apparent it is very different from the book by Robert Sawyer.

It is obviously the source for the story and some characters (actually, as of the first episode, only one, who was single in the book with no children and is married in the show with an injured son - Lloyd Simcoe).

It also has changed the cause of the flash forward, because in the book no one could be walking around while everyone else was passed out. It isn't possible if they are using the same cause, so it must be different. But the fact that Lloyd is in it means it is similar.

Plus the amount of time in the future everyone flash forwards to is 21 years in the book not six months, which makes it way more interesting. Who gives a shit what is happening in 6 months? Except for the card falling on the river or who beat the spread on Sunday.

Interesting show though, with lots of ambiguous quantum mechanics to play around with for the writers.
Balloon guy

First scene after the blackout when the main guy is standing on a car, behind him is a small billboard with a sign for Oceanic airlines. and in the previews for next week...Charlie shows up claiming to know what caused the blackouts.

I will not get sucked into a 5 year long changing storyline again.

So every single person is now figuring out that six months from now 'x' was happening. So what are the chances that with todays internet, cable and satelite tv that 5 months from now they will not begin the countdown to the "Day We Flashed Foward"? Which means it's highly unlikely that the things that happened will happen just because we are allllll in the know. You think the FBI chief will be taking a dump at that minute now?

don't forget Daybreak with Taye Diggs and Moon Bloodgood. They do this to me every.damn.time
slink
Don't see how they can string this for more than one season unless there is another flash forward at the end of season one.
bdc30
well, i thought the 2nd episode sucked pretty hard. will probably give it one or two more weeks but if this is the norm, gg flashforward
Freddec
i like it
solid show so far
rcooj_7
Just realized a flaw from episode 1. The kid taken to the hospital knew the name of the doctor that he saw in the ER. when she said you are going to be fine. he says "I know (forget her name)" but in her vision there was no child to be found. but apparanetly in the kids she was present, up until this time, all visions have matched perfectly. writting error or is it a purpose error?
dolfan
I'm struggling with this show. They're throwing waaaaaaay too much into each episode. There were like five or six "shocking" moments in the second episode that could have easily been stretched throughout five or six episodes.

I think 21 years is more interesting to a lot of people, but it leads to a whole lot of "I'm dead" visions, no?

and it is a bit easier to center a show around a six month time frame than a 21 year time frame.

This show just about lost me right away but I think it has tamed down a bit and tends to focus a bit more on 1-2 points per week.

Very much enjoying this show.

While I agree it's getting better, for some strange reason, I am not drawn to immediately watch each week. I tivo it and usually watch on friday or something, but I'm no dying to watch it. While I'm watching I seem to enjoy, but it's not fully doing it for me yet.

Was losing interest till this week's episode.
Ron_Mexico
solid ep, I wonder how they keep it rolling or tidy it up at season's end. Curious. It's only 6 months away, you have to figure some shit out soon
Southern Buddhist
Despite the unrelenting hype, I missed the first three episodes (studying for the GRE). I haven't found it at all difficult to figure out what's going on -- it's perfectly clear from the current episodes what must have been in the first three. I like it, but am not quite fully committed to it yet.

As for jumping forward only six months, that actually seems more interesting to me than 21 years. If you got a flash of your life 21 years from now and didn't like it, you'd still feel pretty helpless to change it, because there are literally millions of moments and potential decisions between now and then, and you'd never know which were the key moments or decisions that would change the future. But when you see something that's just six months off, then every moment and every decision becomes important right now, because it's so close it really feels as though it's in your power to change. Twenty-one years feels inevitable.

This sums up my feelings for the show.

I finally got caught up.... the last episode was veryyy good. Very suprising ending.

There are 2 things that I want explained immediately. First is the story behind two of the guys who are supposedly responsible for the flash forward. (The guy from Lord of the Rings and guy with the son in the hospital). I'm not familiar with the character's names yet. Luckily from the previews for next week it looks like they will go into this a little more.

Second, they haven't mentioned anything about the guy walking around at the baseball game for awhile. I wish they would find something out about that.
Southern Buddhist
Well, it involved poker, but explanations? Not so much.
