Jason Schwartzman
Ted Danson
Zach Galifianakis

Just watched the first episode and I strongly recommend giving it a shot. There's some really funny shit in there.

Episode 2 is out there on the internet already.

The lead in this bugs the effing shit out of me, but I liked it. And maybe I can learn to like him.
brvheart
I didn't think it was great... but I'll give it another episode. Zach is very good and Ted is money.

I like the concept of the show, and it's HBO so I will give it a shot, but I have the same problem with the lead character.
GeneralGeeWhiz
meh, jason schwartman is one of the worst actors ever, but i do like ted and zach.... i'll begrudgingly give it a shot.

In case anyone was gonna grab this, the one I downloaded had a horrendous full-screen HBO watermark throughout the entire episode. Beware.

I liked this week more.

The title of this show says it all. The show has no shot at being renewed unless they seriously change how they are writing the main character. I don't think it's possible for this show to survive unless the main character is even mildly likable. Every second that this show is on I want him to die.

While I haven't seen much of his stuff, many people said they didn't like him to begin with, so you aren't the only one who feels that way. But aside from that, I think your opinion is a little strong. I don't see you really relating to alcoholic stoners that well, and I do imagine you wanting him to die.

Ted and Zach are good though, and the storyline isn't that bad, so relax on the hating a bit and enjoy some of the funny stuff, or don't watch. It certainly isn't worth wanting a fake person to die over.

Well, he is just a fake person... I don't want the actually guy to die. The character in the show is simply a huge douchebag. I want my main characters to have flaws, but still be likable... like Josh Brolin in NCFOM. Even just slightly likable is ok... but this guy is just 100% douche. There is no way that his ex-girlfriend would have gone out with him in the first place.

I really like Zack and Ted.

ps. You'd be very surprised at how many stoner drunks I have had as friends. (Ask Napa about my friend Aaron some time.)

The Boo Radley line slayed me.

I really enjoy this show.

Ok, so here's the deal with this show. I gave it a shot, but it's just not working for me.... that isn't to say that I'm going to totally stop watching, because I'm not... but it's simply not good enough to be considered in a quality rotation of weekly shows. It does entertain me, and I LOVE Ted and Zach... but I just can't get over all the forced crap that is totally unrealistic.

There is no way Ted's character experiments with being gay. Just stupid.

Also, there are a bunch of little things that set up 'jokes' that are just stupid and unrealistic. Like when Schwarzman was in the Russian bar and yelling on the phone about gay escorts. No one on earth is that unaware of their surroundings. Anyone would use different words and speak in hushed tones... but not on bored to death, because that wouldn't set up our joke.

Good thing shows like Curb and The Office and IASIP don't ever use unrealistic situations to set up jokes, otherwise those shows just wouldn't be any good.

I didn't really like last nights episode, but I find your reasons to disliking this show to not make a lot of sense.

Also, the Office Wedding episode was average at best. AVERAGE.

this thread isn't about the office, so FACE.

AND shows like Curb, The Office, and IASIP have a different world view than Bored to Death. The world of The Office, for instance, is totally unrealistic, from top to bottom, so it works perfectly fine to set up jokes in an unrealistic way.

Know a lot of white-wine alcoholic-stoners who run P.I. gigs off Craigslist while writing for a magazine on the side, do you?

I wish I liked this show more, it's going to be hard to keep up this anti-brv thing on a topic I don't really care for.

That's why SuitedAces makes the big bucks.

Sure, I understand what you're saying, but I'm ok with that, because certainly if there WAS a white-wine alcohic stoner in the world... he would definitely be self-employed and probably in the arts or writing. So it makes sense to me. Let's look at the Office however. Who would actually be employable at a mid-range paper company of all the employees they have:

Toby
Stanley
Oscar
Angela
Jim
Pam
Phylis

That's it.

Kevin
Dwight
Michael
Andy
Creed
Meredith

are completely unrealistic and unemployable characters. That makes the entire show unrealistic to me, and I'm ok with that. Again, I'm more trying to explain my point, rather than disagree with you.

Overall lukewarm on this show, but the latest ep was a slam dunk.
