I am going into a brand new AHL style league this Sunday. Dont need to get into the history and politics behind it, some of you know.

However anyone have any advice? This is going to be 16 teams all with $1000 to spend with the whole NHL as free agents.

The league runs similar to the AHL with similar rules, however the money (cap) is different.

People will probably overpay for the top 10 guys Ovy,Crosby,Kovalchuk,Malkin, Datsyuk..etc...

By overypaying you are assuring that you wont be able to sign your players next year.

I think the key is to find young good players under the radar , that you can sign cheap and then resign long term next year.


Its going to be a crapshoot, wild and fun all at the same time.

Any advice?

honestly..i think about 12 hours

16 teams , times 25 players.

make sure you never have much more money left than anyone else
dont run out of money early. keep some for the end, ensure you get some bargains at the end.
dont bid on names, bid on consistent production.

Salaries are WAAYY out of wack.

Yeah, someone needed to set a cap max and a cap min when setting this pool up, methinks.

What's the starting cap? Roster spots per team?

$1000 for 25 players and 3 sets of goalies..16 teams

It was weird as first Crosby goes for like $250...and Malkin for $290...Then the lower tier stars went from like $100-$175...Then all of a sudden people start running out of money and realize they still need to pick up like 20 players..

So Dion Phaneouf salary is $133 and Mike Komisarek's is $1...While Phaneouf is much better, he isnt 133 times better..

Maybe not a great analogy, but there are players of similar stature and there salaries are WAY off from one another..

Players that went early went in the range of $100, similar players that went later went for $20-$30..

Ok, well 30% of your total budget on one superstar really isn't out of line then. Ovechkin and Crosby both get better than 30% of the starting budget from their respective teams in the FCHL, and the only reason Malkin gets less is that Ollie is a genius and signed him long term after grabbing him in our inaugural draft before he'd even played a game (I think he paid him like $8 starting salary and then had to pay Tier 1 raises to resign him).

yeh, $8 before he played a game - i took a shot and remember people were like 'woah, thats pretty steep' but its paid off now. how about streit for $12.50?! lol

Does that mean someone else actually bid $24 for Stajan, or did you go right from $1 to $25?

of course not..Someone did bid $24 for Stajan.

It was a timing issue in this league..If Stajan came out later , probably would of had him for less.

Also keep in mind $24 isnt a whole lot when your cap is $1000

I can basically sign him long term. I think Stajan will have a big year this year...What is big year you may ask?

$1 for peverley in a league with $1000. Sounds about right.

I was going to comment about Komisarek at $5 but that is fine when dealing with $1000.

Congratulations to me, owner of the Clydesdales for clinching 1st overall last night with one game to go in the inaugural season of the NGFHL.

I get a first round bye and some nice prize money guaranteed..

After having to put up with playing against Crosby in a 7 game series in the AHL, my second round series starts on Friday..

The team that pulled the upset is the Ravag , he has Crosby and Stamkos, the two hottest players in the NHL..

Tyler Bozak i have watched enough and know the situation with the Leafs enough that he will be given every opportunity to play...Getting points in the NHL is all about opportunity..Based on this Tyler Bozak i have pencilled in for 20G 40a 60pts...very lofty goal but thats what I am looking for.

I get Kopitar , I give up Semin.

Contracts irrelevant..both one year players.

I prefer Kopitar.
