I know that the blog is from Kos which is uber-liberal/progressive, but I thought the post was fair and thought-provoking.

I for one have always thought it silly for corporations/businesses to be treated with personhood..that doesn't mean I necessarily think none of them should be able to lobby (Although I would be FINE with taking away their ability to make campaign contributions), but I think a different set of rights and rules is most appropriate.

Yeah, this is a throny legal issue (and it has come up because of a movie about Hillary Clinton which could irrevocably change our campaign finance laws depending on how Anthony Kennedy feels when they hear the case).

Basically, the legend is that an off-hand, off the record remark during a late 1800s Supreme court case was "accidentally" transcribed into the main opinion (by a court reporter who also worked for a big corporate railroad apparently) and this off hand remark is where the corporations are people doctrine started.

I personally don't believe corporations should be treated like people. They are NOT people. As an exchange, we should cut corporate taxes (double taxes) in half. You are not people anymore and as such you get a new tax break. But you cant make campaign videos with your limitless cash. Done and done.

I'm an S corp...it's strictly a loophole to allow me to:

1. Save on taxes

2. Keep my stuff safe if my company gets sued for something I did. I do something that seriously hiurts someone, I have a shielf protecting my toys from your greedy little injured hands.

In other words, it's a lawyer's wet dream for screwing the rest of you.

But it does cost me $800 a year for this right...so there's that.

You should have a Personal Umbrella Policy too.

This would not be an issue in this context if judges cared about the first amendment.

For the most part, corporations as person is a ridiculous idea.
