Tonight I watched Archer, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Community, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and SNL Weekend Update Thursday

The second on that list was genuinely funny. The rest ranged from slightly funny to just entertaining. Entertaining is fine but sometimes I want comedy. I've had a lot of entertaining lately. I watched Foot Fist Way (nice film. not an loler but good), Wet Hot American Summer (decently funny), and Adventureland (lead guy is good lead guy and this is more of a movie not a comedy but I watched it and liked).

I know I'm being a curmudgeon but Extract was horrid. When it comes to movies, I can't trust many people anymore (you're my boy, Paul Rudd).

I'm crossing my fingers on The Informant

In short, here we can talk comedy. Or make comedy. Or possibly talk about upcoming...no that's just ridiculous.

So did you listen to Simmons's podcast with Bill Hader or something?

Hey!

Extract was a disappointment, so now I'm looking to The Invention of Lying (i.e. Bizarro Liar, Liar) as my comedy hope.

Also in that podcast he talked about the best comedies of the decade. Well, not best, but best and most rewatchable and biggest cultural impact. I think this was his list:

Anchorman
40 Year Old Virgin
Borat
Wedding Crashers
Old School
The Hangover
Sideways
Superbad? Maybe?

I think I'm missing one or two others.

that's ridiculous, Joey. I have no idea who this Bill Hader character is. I'm sure he isn't my favourite person on SNL at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that was the exact list. I haven't seen Sideways in quite a while but it definitely stands out as "should not be on that list". it might've been the "best" movie but in terms of actual comedy I'm not sure it has as much as those others. in terms of cultural impact it's among the top of the list. though the impact it had was from a wine standpoint. I can't say how re-watchable it is since i've only seen it once.

Superbad was quite a nice film and so far I've found it to be quite re-watchable but it's not quite up to par with the rest of the list I think. well, wedding crashers and old school could possibly be in this "second tier" of this list.

Superbad was aptly titled.

Ho ho ho.

Invention of Lying looks disappointing to me. Here's my beef with it: Ricky Gervais is a good comedian and he created a brilliant TV show playing a brilliant character. However he is not playing to his strengths with films like this and Ghost Town which are entirely based around a flimsy "what if?" premise rather than a strong comedic character. It reminds me of Jim Carrey. I would much rather watch his films with a strong character and flimsy plot like Ace Ventura and the Mask rather than Liar Liar or Yes Man etc. So what I want from a Gervais film is the next David Brent character, not another fat guy does Rom Com like Jack Black in Shallow Hal.

Just my 2 pence.

I terms of movies that made me laugh out loud the most it was Bruno, then borat, and then a huge gap.
