Heard about that river but never seen it before, cool in a really funny way. Its still crazy to me how its celebrated everywhere. Even in Israel the party in the Irish bar gets so big that the whole street outside closes off traffic just from the sheer amount of people there, theres always some thick headed Israeli who still attempts to drive through it using his horn. Never ends well for him.
Paddy's Day- from 1years to 10 years old, great times. 11 years - 13 years kind of shitty. 14 until now - smashed drunk and always hilarious.

So as a Irish person. St. Patrick's day, Day of Drunkenness or Day of Church? If you purport it is anything other than a holiday like Christmas or Easter, then you are not Irish. Irish ppl are usually horrified about how the rest of the world celebrates St. Patrick's Day.

wat.

So if I decide to inform you of what happens in my country I'm not Irish.

Its too much a headache to even respond to this as you already have your mind made up, but just trust me on this, you are 100% wrong.

Ah I get you, Irish people aren't really big drinkers so we wouldn't really realise that.

I am not really trying to have a roe with you. but, I know of many Irish bar owners in the us who close on St. Patrick's day due to the derelict behavior of the non Irish.....I know you have fun in Ireland but all I can say is you would be super surprised at what ppl outside of Ireland do on St. Patrick's day.....It is common experience of Irish immigrants to the Us to be horriffied by the behavior of Americans on St. Patrick's Day. Dude, ppl here are not seasoned drinkers.

I just love how you use links to tell an Irish person what goes on his country. How have I not noticed you before or is this a one off retarded outburst? And no your point was not that we would be surprised that we can handle our drink better, it was that I'm not Irish if I don't say we go to church and spend time with family.
Despite what little nice fairy island you've concocted in your head, religion is dying in Ireland. Notice how your first link is written by a granny, check the photo. I still can't get enough joy out of the fact that you used a link to try persuade me.
St. Patricks day is not a saints day, we get absolutely wasted, police force is increased, you will see at least 5 people drunk alseep on the streets walking through any city. Its an absolute mess and chaos and its amazing. If you really enjoy St. Patricks day you need to come drink in Dublin for the day.

So no, the majority of us do not go to the church and spend time with family.

Also thanks for making me laugh out loud at the thought of "many" bar owners closing on one of their most profitable days of the year.

slapstick, I really don't know how you're not getting this, but irish people don't drink.

Ok, again. I am not really trying to start a fight with you. I have just heard complaint after complaint from Irish immigrants to the States in regards to St Patrick's Day. Some of those complaints have come from a couple of the most successful bar owners in La, the money to stay open on St. Patrick's day for them isn't worth the trouble. All I can do is take your word on the rest of it. I know times are very tough in Ireland right now. Perhaps The NDP can provide a better tomorrow. St. Patrick's is still a Saints day on which ppl tradtionaly go to church and spend time with family and have some beers but to the rest of the world it is a time to live up to a drunken stereo type and that upsets me.

This.
A few of my friends happened to be in Dublin on St. Patrick's Day, they have more awesome stories from the 20-ish hours there than the 21 years of their life.

SLAP STICK, I want to publicly apologize for questioning your Irishness if you did not agree with me, that was very retarted of me. I apologize.

I do have a couple questions if you don't mind. I would prefer to be less retarded in the future. I realized that the the Irish immigrants I know all immigrated over a decade ago. So I was wondering how long the original traditions Of St. Patrick day have been deteriorating? I was also wondering; if Dublin is an example that represents the rest of Ireland on St. Patrick's Day? In the States Mardi Gras is a tradition in New Orleans that is Bacchanalia before Lent that is not representative of the actions of the rest of the States. But, the Mardi Gras tradition has been expanding out of New Orleans the last twenty to thirty years, ppl do love an excuse to act depraved. Is Dublin like New Orleans during Mardi Gras?
