Once again, I look forward to the mother of all mothers non keeper hockey league.

If there is any doubt, I AM IN FOR 2009/2010

Any dropouts for this year?
MapleLeafs
In for the win.
Zach6668
Meh, I'm undecided, which probably means I'll drop out. I shouldn't be in it if my heart isn't in it.

* Confirmed Returning

That's 19 teams that are welcome to come back if they wish, and I have one name on my list (Wayne - Ingmen) for a team if one is available. If all 19 come back this year then we'll go with a 20 team league again, if one drops then I know the majority of people had expressed that they would like to see the league contract down to 18 teams, we'll do that if possible. If two teams or more drop, we'll go with 18 and I'll fill from the waiting list.

I think I noted everyone who participated all season long last year but if your name isn't there by all means let me know. One team was dropped due to the fact that the GM quit midseason (twice, after he was cautioned once) and stopped icing his roster, which is really the only major no-no in the league because it creates Bye weeks and an unfair advantage to teams that still have the dead team on their schedule. All I ask is that you stick it out the whole season, beyond that the rules are almost all Yahoo.

Here's to another great season of FCP Yahoo hockey!
serge
thats great Adam. You do a very good job running this pool, and I am looking forward to redeeming myself this year.

Standard Yahoo H2H league with some additional stats and a lot of additional roster spots, it's a very deep league.

I'm coming back. Love this league.
SBriand
I want to of course, been there since day 1 but I have no money online so it makes it difficult if it is a cash league this go around. I will have to play it by ear.

I am in for the 1st time.

I am in also - keep the cash league going also.

I also accept Paypal, or if you want you can just send a money order. I marked you down as confirmed returning, but if you need to drop when I start collecting the money that's of course up to you.

Seems like most people want to keep the $20 buyin intact so far.
SBriand
Ahh, $20 should be fine, I can get that by Liz no prob. For some reason I thought it was $50. So count me in. But right off the bat I will be out of town Sept 13-17th.
serge
if we are throwing times out for possible drafting:

I would prefer any week night, preferably after 9pm.
Belanger25
I have school till about 5PST on Monday and Wednesday and I'm in Vegas 25-27 of next Month.
ajs510
After 9PM EST on a weeknight would be perfect for me as well.
strategy
I'm definitely out. I kept my roster cycling last year but wasn't giving it enough attention because of the FCHL. thanks again for the organizing efforts, A-ball.
runthemover
I'm in as long as I'm able to make the draft. that probably goes without saying. I'm a west coaster so as late as possible

are we continuing with 3 appearances per week minimum for goalies?
Zach6668
I hate goalies so much, just get rid of them altogether!!!!!!
Belanger25
I joined another league where the league rule is, "You're only allowed to carry two goalies on your roster and only more if they are on IR"

i like this...Goalies put me on tilt last year..
ajs510
I'm open to whatever you guys want to do about the goalies, if you want we can have a totally seperate snake draft for goalies on the forum and I can just assign them to teams when the league opens. Say everyone gets two in the snake and can pick up as many as they want in the regular draft, I dunno...
Belanger25
This is how I see it, if you do two goalies and then allow people to pick up more than two goalies after the fact. If there is an injury like what happened to Marty Broduer last season then again we have a goalie problem again(Or if Serge picks Rick DiPietro with his first pick, ok 2nd pick after Kyle Wellwood). If we tell everyone you can only have two goalies and only more if they are on IR.

We play two minimum starts per week, old rules, we'll have to figure it out, I know I have my plan if we go towards that.

Or we just do the same old shit and good luck!
runthemover
I don't like limiting the number of goalies one can select. I think that's a bad idea considering we'll have 18-20 teams. that screws up people's draft strategy of getting many goalies and instead means everyone is targeting getting two good ones. that means your top two are MORE important.

we could make the league into points per week instead of categories. if you want goalies go ahead. if not who cares. having a max of two there would make sense.

it takes away the degree of victory thing a bit. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. and it changes the makeup of the league quite a bit where we're all not familiar with it

edit:

I don't think I like the idea of a goalie draft beforehand. everything should be done at once.
strategy
something to think about. we've always had one or two teams that didn't make the draft and abandoned their teams, usually with no NHL goalies on their roster. even if you cut it to 18 teams, goalies are still going to be in short supply.

for some people, I think the goaltender musical chairs is about half the fun in the league, though.
Zach6668
I just hate the 3-min start rule when there aren't even 2 starting goalies to go around to each team. In fact, that makes half the categories not even fair.

I just think it's dumb when there's an imbalance like that.

But I don't know. Don't listen to me, make your decisions, and I'll decide whether I want to stay in, or if someone more deserving can have my spot. smile.gif

You don't need many goalies to win, some have had five and it doesn't work. I don't think my goaltending was that stellar last year but somehow the amazing tandem of, Roloson, Wade Dubielewicz and Andrew Raycroft got me 6th in the league.
Speed Limit

I've always been of the personal feeling that with a two start minimum, it would be way too easy to reach that minimum every week with nothing more than a stable of backups.

I like the three start minimum because you basically have to have a starting goalie on your roster to reach that which helps even out the draft so that no one can go scorer x 6 in the first 6 rounds and then start sniping backup goalies here and there, still reaching their minimums.

Maybe it would make more sense to devalue goalies by a category (shutouts, perhaps?) and add a category to the skating positions, something like that.
Fubar The Sperm
I am in. Want that elusive Championship this year.

I am also in for $20 again.

The only changes I would like to see are maybe we go to 18 teams so there are a few extra goalies and makes picking up FA's a little more fun as there will be a few better players available. Also I would like to see us be allowed 3 IR spots since our rosters are so big and there are so many teams. Being forced to drop good players sucks.

Having 8 teams make the playoffs might be nice too. Also for those who don't like the whole goalie thing then maybe we can add 2 extra offensive categories so that way goalies weigh a little less on the scoring system.

No matter what though I will participate.

I agree with most if not all of this.

Something needs to be done about the goalie situation though imo. I was one of the teams that missed the draft and ended up with 3 backups from Ottawa. 2 of which barely cracked the AHL. 2 min start and taking away a G category in favor of a skater category may do the trick.
Belanger25
The biggest problem is the teams that take 2 or 3 Starting goaltenders, that's the biggest problem. If you limit everyone to two goalies then it's not a problem.

In the draft from last year 19 of the top 40 picks were goaltenders. GoBears, BurnabyExpress, and PointCannon each used their first two picks on goaltenders.

GoBears 17th
Point Cannon 10th
Burnaby 1st

3rd Round- 9 more goalies(28 out of 60)
4th Round- 7(35 of 80)

Canadian Gothic 4(Luongo, Ersberg, Rinne, Stephan)
Mustangs 4(Toskala, DiPietro, Joseph, Weeks)
Ottawa Limidonks 5(Budaj, Fernandez, Leighton, Johnson, McElhinney
Silver Seven 4(Norrena, Turco, Smith, Lalime)
Crimson and Blue 6(Ramo, Hiller, Auld, Hedberg, Holmqvist, Aubin)
runthemover
if you limit everyone to two goalies then those top goalies become overvalued. the reason some people draft 5 goalies is because they don't have the solid starters. people won't make 3 appearances per week if you can only have 2 goalies.

How many goalies play 70+ games?
How many play 65+?

I made it to 3rd (1st if not for a dumb dumb move by me in the semi-finals) because I had 3 solid goalies from 2 teams (Huet+Khabby and Cam Ward). I used three of my top six picks (I think top 6) on goalies.

If we drop to 18 teams, we might (MIGHT) be able to stay with the status quo.

If we keep 20 teams, I think something has to change. 2 starts. this is a good option because people can draft 1 solid goalie and be OK. if you want to shoot for breaking even at best in goalie categories and try your luck at better skating stats then you can do that. if you want to go for two goalies and give up a better skater then you can do that

limiting the number of goalies one can take doesn't solve the issue. it makes it harder to get 3 appearances so more goalies will go early on. if I can only have two goalies, I sure as hell need the best ones.

The goalies are so ****ing overrated to begin with.
runthemover
what are our real solutions?

1. less teams: more goalies to go around

2. less starts: less need for goalies

3. no goalies

4. less goalie stats: if you don't get 3 starts it won't kill you (0-12 currently). if you don't have great goalies, it won't kill you.
Zach6668
I vote for no goalies, fwiw. Just my preference as I've always preferred pools like our playoff pool, or the FCHL/AHL where there are either no goalies, or they use teams GA, which makes it less annoying to figure out who's starting, etc.
Belanger25
I think you need some goaltending in this league, but how the key to winning is not goaltending.

I agree with this. If possible to have team goalies this would be ideal. I drafted Rick Dipietro hoping he would play and he ended up missing most of the year. At that stage there were no goalies of any value available as all the backups were basically gone too..

That's an interesting idea, actually.

Each team gets to draft one goalie over the course of the draft, whenever they want. Once one goalie is picked, no one else from that team can be picked. Then, with the subsequent last pick, each team can add the backup goalie for the team their starter plays for, and has 100% free reign of picking up 3rd stringers if necessary as the season goes along. If you need to drop the backup to get him or whatever, nobody else can pick the guy you drop up, because they're stuck with the team they choose in the draft for the rest of the season.

Maybe we'd need to change it to a 2 start minimum, or simply make it that goalies have to start (can we enforce that?). I don't know if teams always have 3 games per week, although the vast majority probably do, like 99% of the time.

Thoughts? It still allows the strategy of taking a strong goaltending team earlier in the draft if you want, at the expense of perhaps a strong forward, but it seems to level things maybe a bit?

You also won't get ass-raped by injuries, aside from the obvious that the backups will probably not be as good as the starters.
Untilted
Here is my take:

The reason why we have minimum goalies is so that teams dont get free points for not having any goalies for the week (GAA and SV pct)

Why don't we eliminate the save percentage category and have no goalie minimum for the week? Kinda solves both problems.

You would be crazy to want to have no goalies because even if you have a great GAA you still will lose or tie the other 4 goalie categories
Untilted
9pm draft time is good for me on most nights.

9/14 and 9/15 would be real difficult for me at any time. I have a huge work deadline 9/15 and probably will be working crazy hours
Derswick
Is there any doubt? Of course I'm in. And thanks for the cash guys. Personally I like it the way it is but did like the idea of going down two teams. $25 and two teams less would be perfect.
WestcoastCanuck
I'm in, and in for cash. I would love a change to the goalie system. 2 start min, no goalies, team goalies, they all sound better.
