Sorry I can't respond to more than 2 quotes on this stupid phone. 69, this movie isn't about "effects" like 2012. In fact, I'm sure there are many movies with better "effects". (transformers comes to mind) This movie is about the 3d experience. No one has ever seen anything like this before.

Why would I pay to see a bunch of good fx? Are you kidding me? It's exactly why I bitch about Emmerich and Bay. I, for one, don't want Hollywood making this kind of thing and making shitpiles of $$$ off them. Well, OK, they will make $$$ anyway, but at least they won't be mine. Fuck this movie.
Hm.
I am now potentially disappointed that I didn't see it in 3D. It's an amazingly beautiful movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the story too...even if it got a little heavy-handed with the messages sometimes.

OK, as usual, I came across too harsh, methinks.
I LIKE FX, but it seems like such a waste for a good storyteller like Cameron to use them in a "message" movie (that's the vibe I'm getting from the reviews). FX should enhance and support a movie, not BE the movie. I get that it's a new hybrid, but when I see the promos and it's some military dude saying "Ladies and gentlemen, we're not in Kansas any more", it just makes me sick. That type of dialogue is so hackneyed and worn out, it's one of the worst cliches ever. Story should always take precedence and lack of one should never be an excuse to cram FX in to make it better. It just doesn't work.
Kudos to the dialoguistas...

I saw it in full IMAX 3-D.
It was a pretty amazing experience. The visual and the 3-d were just so overpowering. I had an almost physical reaction and felt pretty exhausted by the end of it. It just sucks you in and you feel a part of this strange, exotic world.
It's really a movie that you HAVE to see in theaters, and you probably should see in 3-d IMAX if you can. Pretty awesome.

A movie can be whatever the director wants it to be. This movie is about creating an experience within the theater and showcasing the peak of technological development.
The story has been told before, but it's done pretty well in this movie and serves the overall experience.

I took the family to it this morning. The matinee is pretty cheap at the good theater in town and so I was able to escape for just under $80.
The kids loved it. The five year old girl had trouble in a few scenes, but loved it by the end. They haven't stopped talking about it.

My favorite part of the 'experience' is when the tree seeds are landing all over him. I'm not sure why, since it's not one of the more 'effects' driven sequences, but it just 'did it' for me. Really enjoyable.

I have tried the 'weed pills' that local pot shops have, and they...suck. I'm curious how your friend makes these.

I have to say it's quite an accomplishment to have a movie go that long and not have that dragging feeling while watching it. Every Lord of the Rings movie had it. This didn't.
I didn't see it in imax 3d but it still looked nice. though, I'm still engrossed anytime I see HD on TV.
don't you feel bad for the guys who stayed behind but don't have an avatar? not getting any for the rest of their life (me2: 0 = 0 (ok good point)). But doesn't seem like much of a life to be there. Not that that they had a choice. Go on trial for treason or stick around on an alien planet? Ana Lucia went out the smart way.

Ground up plant material doesn't work when eaten. You have to dissolve it in a lipid, which is why you make cannabis butter and the like to cook with.

The story was absolutely basic, where people end up in just the right spot to cause trouble or be heroes. It absolutely could have been written by an average high schooler.
The effects were something else entirely. Really something to behold. There is mild swearing, but overall a very kid friendly movie, that all kids will probably enjoy, simply because it's magical. I was impressed.
I don't go to the theater to watch movies, but if more movies looked like this, I would go to more movies. I can't imagine that this isn't the future.

I saw it at an IMAX 3D place that's in a furniture store, where the seats are made out of memory foam and have built in "buttkicker" speakers, which was nice.
I did kind of snap out of it and lose my suspension of disbelief when the praying/singing/dancing routine started at the tree of life. That shit was ridiculous.

Wow, just Wow. I took a couple of pills for my back, snuck in a fifth of Captain and made a night of it. That movie was phenomenal, as speeds said, not the story line, but the experience. This will ruin other movies for awhile for me.
I liked the chanting tree of life scene, I liked to pretend they were about to have a giant blue Orgy.
Couple of funny/amusing things (to me) for the evening. We got there last night 30 minutes before the movie. We were at the end of the line. I went and got a Soda to pour my captain into while my wife got seats. We always sit dead center, but did not have that option. I finally find her on the far end. We have one seat open to the right of me. A couple of guys come in a few minutes late and ask if that seat is open, and the one behind it (there were not two seats together at this point) I say "go ahead" and right after he sits down the folowing exchange happens
ME: "excuse me, can you switch seats with your buddy, he's cuter"
Him: "Huh, what" "Oh, but he wont do the things I will"
ME: (Turning around to his buddy who has heard none of this) "Never mind *******, you just stay right there"
Buddy: "..."
Him: :slight chuckle:
Unfortunately that was our last exchange and I didn't even get an HJ.
After the movie my wife asked me what I thought of it, and I said that I wanted to get some blue paint and some Zinka and bang the shit out of her under a tree. I am thinking I can make this happen.
