Who knows if this show is going to make it... but I have high hopes. The previews look awesome.

Joel McHale is a funny dude.

I'd be shocked if this makes it to a 2nd season. I'll give it a chance though.

Boy remember how bad the Chevy Chase show was?

Other than the Doritoes commercial during the Super Bowl, it had no redeeming features at all.
coug2828
i just took a look at chevy's career on imdb. he was involved in a lot of shows/movies in the 2000's that i never heard of. i had no idea he was even a working actor still.
DrawingDeadInDM
Looks pretty funny. I like Joel McHale for some reason, though.
Ron_Mexico
Joel McHale is brilliant on The Soup and Chevy Chase used to be awesome

I know we've already talked about it before, but **** if Fletch Lives isn't one of the funniest movies ever made.

This looks good to me. Hopefully it was last longer than I think it will.

great line, but that's from the original, which is a fantastic damn movie

Fletch Lives is a great movie.

One of my favorite lines from that movie.

TV preacher: Do ya think I used too many pictures of myself?
Fletch: Nooo, no, it worked for the Iatollah

My goodness. I loved this show. Hilarious.

wow, comedy wise, you and I don't agree on much. Religion either. Come to think of it...

Show is exactly what I thought it was going to be. No real guffaws, one chuckle that I can remember. Just about average, but I love Joel McHale on The Soup so I'm in for a while.

What's wrong with you Mexico? Joel McHale was awesome. The only stupid part of the show was the 'professor' friend of his and the whole 'answers' subplot. The study group had solid characters all around. I enjoyed the Indian dude.
king_tanner
I really really liked this show. I'm glad Chevy Chase is a supporting character, and not the star, I think the show will be better off because of it.

I liked the adderal girl the best.

So I just watched it again, just in case you were correct... and you weren't. It was still super awesome.

I'm in.

I liked it.

agree with pretty much everything Mexico said. I didn't go in to it expecting much from watching the few clips I had seen and the first episode wasn't that funny. I'll continue watching just because I like Joel.

I watched this and thought it was average at best. I wouldnt mind watching and wouldn't care if I missed it.

I did have one true laugh out loud moment when everyone was trying to convince the hot girl to get Joey to come back into the class behind his back when he was on the steps and the Indian dude was like "Whats going on?? Am I deaf??? Can you hear me!?!?"

I liked the text spelling of "conversation," and his line after that. Otherwise, nothing did much for me. I know he was a "lawyer" before, but the speeches were pretentious and not conversational in any way. I didn't even know about the show until a Wednesday preview I saw, but I just don't see a whole lot of creative or unique comedy here.

Show was just average. I've known better shows to be cancelled obv.

On a side note, anyone know where I can get Boston Legal DVDs cheaply?

one detail that was quite nice was the blazer/track pant combo sported by Joel

Yoda got a account?

I really wanted this show to be better, kept waiting for it to be better. It never got better. It was okay.

The critics love it, apparently, but it's going to have to ramp up the laughs to make it.

LOmother****in'L at the opening credits with Evette "Nicole Brown" and a knife inside a slice of cake.

Would be surprised if that lasts.

Many excellent subtle lines tonight. Joel and Chevy were gold.
Ron_Mexico
enjoyed it more this week. As I said, I'm in for a while, but I would like a little more adult humor. Hell, even Glee makes edgier jokes
Suited_Up
This 2nd episode was at least twice as good.

Chevy Chase has had one of the strangest careers. He was on SNL for just one season, because he was such a big hit that he left to do movies, a lot of which were also big hits. Then something happened, and around the time of Christmas Vacation his career just totally died. Absolutely and horrifically. His imdb in the 90s is incredibly short and horrible, with a few starring roles in awful movies and a few small parts in mediocre movies. And then, like somebody else said, he mostly has been doing the work that a near-nobody does this decade.

Like, how the hell did he fall so far down for so long? And he's still a pretty damn funny guy. Did he have a major drug problem, or anger problem, or hooker problem or something? I mean, the dude was in Bad Meat in 2004, which starred Billie Worley and Lance Barber, and which nobody anywhere has ever seen.
uncooper
I was really drunk when I watched the pilot, and I found it 100% hilarious. I just watched ep 2 and thought it was kinda meh.

I feel like the main character is constantly doing an impression of Gob.

The rap thing at the end was funny.
brvheart
I enjoyed tonight's episode. The Indian dude's movie was pretty funny. I also loved the anti-Dane Cook joke from Joel.
SBriand
Pilot was meh

Second Ep made me want to watch the third

Third ep was meh

So that means next week will be gold.
king_tanner
I need more angry asian spanish teacher. Also, want happened to the daily show guy who was in the first episode?
brvheart
This show is probably my favorite show of the week. I am consistently laughing throughout every episode. I thought this week's Halloween episode was great. Joel McHale's new teacher love interest is quite attractive and should be a nice edition to the show.

I really love the character that Joel plays. I also get consistent laughs out of Chevy Chase.

Also the crazy Asian dude from The Hangover is great every week.

He's supposed to be horrific to work with. I read the SNL behind the scenes book that came out a couple of years ago. He's come back as a guest host twice, and both times treated the cast so terribly there were punches thrown on both occasions. I also read his autobiography (I was unemployed!). He had an abusive step-parent, which he puts a lot of his behavioral issues on.

Also, he was a rich kid, and probably doesn't have the drive to work that say, Chris Rock has.

Chevy Chase must grind his teeth whenever he sees Bill Murray's career.
Vandees
Chevy Chase is a first class dickhole. He is a jerk, plain and simple. Doesn't shock me he is now making an excuse for his behavior. Or that he was spoiled.
speedz99
Most of his humor was based on being an arrogant jackass...even if that arrogance was completely unwarranted (like in the Vacation movies). I'm not sure what my point is exactly.
brvheart
Also, how would anyone on FCP know what he is actually like? You could find out what he used to be like, but that doesn't say much about how he is right now.

Humility is a powerful thing.
Suited_Up
This show gets better every week I think. (well, almost)... I thought the show with the indian dude's movie was the best one yet, but it's still been great since the pilot, which was meh.

Troy (black dude) has made me laugh more and more every week too. Indian guy gets more insane each time out too, which is hilarious.
brvheart
His batman voice/character was very funny.

I was irrationally proud of myself when I realized that Trudy Campbell, from Mad Men, is also on this show. Don't remember her character's name, she threw the Day of the Dead party.

I said it was ok, just not overly hilarious. It's getting better though. Not must see tv yet

So I watched all 8 episodes this weekend. I like it, and there are some really hilarious parts. So far I think the Batman parts were my favorite. I love the Indian dude, and also love the black dude, but only when he is hanging with the Indian dude. Other times he's annoying. Chevy Chase is good, Joel McHale is good, his love-interest is super-cute, and the various professors and teachers and deans are all pretty good, despite all being a bit silly and over-the-top.

Anyways, overall I have one major problem with the show: the premise is just way way too thin. Like, The Office, 30 Rock, P&R, It's Always Sunny, Curb, etc etc - in all those shows the premise makes some sense. It's a bunch of people who hang out together all the time because they work together, or have been friends for years, etc. On Community we're supposed to believe that these 7 complete strangers, from completely different and hilarious backgrounds quickly became a tight group of friends because they randomly got together and decided to have an after-hours study group. Insanely thin. Just the idea that a bunch of strangers at a community college would get together for a non-required study group for Spanish 101 is preposterous. I get that they are sort of poking fun at other sitcoms, but in general the show is certainly more than just a parody of other shows, so it irks me that their entire premise is so thin and unbelievable.

Just caught up on the last episode.

Still funny, but I see your point. This crew seems to hang around each other and the campus 24/7, which is a little far-fetched.

I know it's just a TV show, but since when do community colleges have dorms?

DMACC here in Iowa has like 10 campuses and many many dorms. The people are all pretty close, but in general are all in their early 20's. So many old people, seemingly away from their families at all hours of the day is a little far fetched, but Chevy and Joel are both single, so they get a pass. I don't know if they've talked about the old black lady's family life.
