hmmm, no one cares about that deal apparently.

Anyhoo, big news in Moneyshots land is the moron GM. A misunderstanding of the rules means the Moneyshots are currently a couple dollars over the maximum cap this year, and $10 or so for the next 2 years as well. Ruh roh.

Currently in talks now to trade some of our high-cap players, many of whom were recently acquired.

Stay tuned...

Some rumblings of a potential large transaction going on in the FCHL. Will the Moneyshots be involved? No one knows...

Stay tuned...

Oops, I've said that before. Oh well.

More happenings and a decision is expected soon. Big dealings could go down in the FCHL as soon as tonight!

EDIT - apparently not. Oh well, hopefully soon. This thread is generating SO much interest, the fans are demanding satisfaction!

Craziness indeed.

Before anyone points it out, I'll acknowledge that MLP got the better of this deal. I do think it was a good deal for me though, given that the alternate would've seen most of the same players go to Jay and I am confident I had to give up as much as I did to prevent that. So, with Arp holding all the leverage, he got himself a healthy deal.

For me, I had other options I preferred, but unfortunately anyone else with a valuable forward kindly told me he was not available, and proceeded to even decline offers that they'd originally made.

Oh well. The Moneyshots wish all the best to their favourite son, Matt Niskanen and 13/14 Art Ross Champion, Paul Stastny.

We also extend a hearty welcome to Vincent Lecavalier, Brian Rafalski and Evgeny Nabakov. A friendly glance is made in the direction of Mr Kovalev.

A key to this deal for me was getting San Jose - with them and Nashville I now have only 8 no-goalie games, and more importantly, 0 in the playoffs. Also, it brought me below the cap ceiling, with precious little time to spare.

I would still like to make one more deal, moving a forward for a defenceman and hopefully shaving a few more bucks in cap.

Interesting to see what everyone thinks. I have gotten a pretty definite impression from all parties that my guys weren't as valuable as I thought they were, so hopefully now that I've traded them, that doesn't change!

My roster should be nearly set for the season, and I'll try to post it tonight.
ajs510
That was a bad deal for you even before Leino, Niskanen and Wilson got thrown into the whirlwind.

I guess if you fully expect to make the title round at the end of *this* season, it's not that horrific, but you gave up a hell of a lot for two top-flight players (Cavs and Rafalski), a headcase (Kovalev) and a defenseman you really didn't need (Hamhuis).

My opinion, Arp spanked your ass bright red on this one, although I acknowledge that a lot of what you shipped him was straight salary dump.

Hamhuis and Ruutu were last second add-ons. They should be ignored.

Like I said, it was partially due to competitive reasons, though there may be some private discussion in that regard.

I do think I could've made the same deal without Niskanen and still it'd be in Arp's favour!

Though, in response to your hypothetical, I think this puts me as an easy top-3 team this year, and arguably the best. Though lots can change, I think it puts me in an even stronger position in 10/11 and 11/12.

I'm pleased with it, only because it makes ollie's pick a lot better.

Now THAT is how you rebuild a team!

Sorry Danny, but I can't help but lmao at this deal.

I'll admit you do have a great team this year, but whatever future you did have is totally gone. This is just like Mikey from year 1.

Not quite that bad - I still have several NHL'ers, IMO. Not to mention the first overall pick in 2011 and 2012!

Plus, I can always pull a Jay and trade the 6th best forward on my team for a couple high picks icon_biggrin.gif
mrdannyg
Here is my roster! Sorry it is hard to read, but the cap is important. Notably, all my guys are signed to 11/12, except Kariya and Kovalev until 10/11. Niskala and Backman are not signed. So I should be very competitive for 3 years.

mrdannyg
Minor deal:

Sbriand Receives:
$3.25 in 09/10

Moneyshots Receive:
2010 5th
2010 5th

I like this deal - picking up a couple picks with the extra cap I have for this year. Cap was useless. 2010 won't be as strong, but if I can pick up guys like Goloubef, Cowen, Roussel and Hanowski in the 5th-round next year, I'm happy. Well, guys like Roussel and Hanowski anyways...
mrdannyg
Another minor deal!

Shaftsbury Wheat Ales Receive:

Guillaume Latendresse - $1/1/1/FA
2011 2nd-Round Pick (Moneyshots)

Moneyshots Receive:
Jaroslav Spacek - $1.50/FA

This leaves the Moneyshots with 27 roster players, a quarter to spend, and a quarter under the cap.

I like this deal for a few reasons. My 2011 2nd will hopefully be in the late 20's, and if Spacek plays with Markov on the PP, that is a potentially dynamite combo. I'm hoping for 25 FCHL points for Spacek, with 30 on the high upside. I really wanted another D in the 4-6 range, and he fits perfectly if only for 1 year. I was also happy to dump Latendresse, who was quite redundant since I have Cammalleri.

Overall a solid deal IMO, unless I'm missing something with Spacek, which is quite possible since I did not do my due diligence before accepting the deal.
Zach6668
I think it's a good deal for you. Spacek is a stud at that contract. I'm probably re-signing him in the AHL for like $5/yr.
ajs510

MapleLeafpoker
very nice deal for you. 2nd rounder in 2011 is not a bad payment at all.

mrdannyg
In a devastatingly boring move, the Moneyshots have finished off their roster:

Moneyshots Receive:
Bruno Gervais - $0.25 (RFA)

Strategy Receives:
Ice Cream Sandwich Future Considerations

Looks like I won't make the auction, and I was one player short with a quarter to spare. Jeff was nice enough to help me out with one of his RFA's he wasn't signing. I've since signed him for one year. I actually gave consideration to signing him longer, as he could be in for some decent production an improving Islanders team, and hard to go wrong for a quarter! Since I already had 26 (28 max) players signed though, I decided against.

More trades may happen, but seems unlikely at this time. Roster is more or less set for the season. Woot.
mrdannyg
Another blockbuster!

MapleLeafPoker receives:
Dan Girardi - $1.25 for 4 years
$0.25 09/10

Moneyshots Receive:
Sergei Samsonov - $1 for 3 years

Analysis: I like MLP's side better. Girardi has more upside and less downside. Seems doubtful he'll score 10 goals again, but he could be mildly productive, and seems to be solidified on the top-4. Samsonov could break his leg or go to Russia any time. Seems doubtful he'll see significant time on the top line, and is probably a 50-point guy if he doesn't.

Deal was made since I have 13 defenceman and needed to trade some for forwards. This was the best deal I was offered. Fun times.

Likely because its the first deal I've made where I didn't have to ridiculously overpay for current talent.

I mean, no one would call a llama tiny, but if all you'd seen was elephants for 6 months, he'd look pretty small.

Right?

Another tiny deal. Moneyshots decided to let the WheatAles fleece them, as payback for the supposed Spacek fleecing.

Moneyshots Receive:
Brendan Bell - $0.25 (RFA)

WheatAles Receive:
Sergei Samsonov - $1/1/1

Nothing deal here. I wanted to add a forward, but went the other way. Dumped a contract which I desparately need to do, though didn't mean much. Samsonov isn't scoring 40 anytime soon, so I'm happy to add the flexibility. Bell is looking like a #7 D right now, but this deal was mostly about the contract flexibility, even if the potential for resigning him to a long deal if he puts in a good season are slim.
WestcoastCanuck
Tell them about how I let you keep $0.75. We need good PR.
strategy
.
mrdannyg
WheatAles do deserve some good PR. The deal was originally specified as player-for-player, and when offering I realized that at this point of the season, cap differential is assumed to be included. WheatAles were kind enough to re-offer the deal, without me even saying anything, to remove the cap differential. This was important as the potential for a add/drop was one of the main benefits of the deal.

Of course as Jeff notes, Bell was demoted the next day. Woopie. I miscounted the Blues D and thought he'd sneak in as the 6th. I now see he is closer to #7-8, and will probably be dropped if not for an injury.
strategy

mrdannyg
Seems like he is #8 though, behind Brewer, Jackman, Polak, Johnson, Colaiacovo, Sydor and Pietrangelo. Not sure who I missed in my initial look, but even an injury (assuming Sydor gets signed) doesn't seem him getting regular minutes. Does seem like he is ahead of Wagner though.

Except we both know Jeff is happily occupying that space.

mrdannyg
Love my tough decision for game 1!

Help me out...

Forwards:
H Sedin @ Colorado
Briere @ New Jersey
Cammalleri @ Buffalo
Pominville Vs Montreal
Gaborik Vs Ottawa
Savard Vs Carolina
Lecavalier @ Atlanta
Nash Vs Minnesota
Kariya @ Detroit

I think I'm going with Sedin, Cammalleri, Gaborik, Savard, Lecavalier and Nash. Savard is my OT right now, but that is tough to call. Right now it is just based on matchup.

Defence:
Bieksa @ Colorado
Rafalski Vs St. Louis
Kuba @ NYR
Weber @ Dallas
Spacek @ Buffalo

Wisniewski, Vlasic and Seabrook are also benched. I think I'm dropping Spacek as I like Kuba's matchup better.

Goalies:
San Jose @ Anaheim
Nashville @ Dallas

Gotta stick with San Jose here. Pekka still has something to prove.

Definitely arguable. Though it isn't Lundqvist so much as the Rangers all-around terrible team and defence. I may change my mind in the 'revenge game' for Spacek smile.gif
Zach6668
I mean, dunno why I'm trying to help you, but the Rangers were 6th in goals against last season, and haven't gotten any worse.
mrdannyg
The thread fell off the first page, so I had to make another trade:

Fearsome Beavers Receive:
Radim Vrbata - $1/1/1/1
$1 in 10/11
$0.50 in 11/12

Moneyshots Receive:
Todd White - $1
2011 4th-Round pick

I like this deal - Vrbata has potential, but I doubt he'll ever score 30. White probably will be useless without Kovalchuk, but he can be dropped mid-year with no penalty. I wanted the flexibility to free up a roster spot, if necessary. Getting a pick was nice, and freeing up some 12/13 cap also helps.
SBriand
My thinking going into this was the following:

1. I have some issues with multiple players on the same team which is causing issues with schedules so I am trying to dump some players to get new players from new teams to help improve my chances of putting out a full lineup more often. I have Little so White was the odd man out in regards to Atlanta.

2. I don't think White will be a 70 pt guy this year. Even if he is, good for Danny, I still don't need him as I am not going to compete probably for any chance at the playoffs.

3. White is an FA at the end of this season. Part of me thought, well, wait and deal him at the deadline. But then I remembered that I tried to do that last year and people laughed at me for thinking anyone would want a 20/50 guy. So I took what I could get.

4. I got what I looked for for the most part. A player from a team I don't have a player from, a guy who I think has solidified a spot on his team. Young, with some potential. Not a superstar, but a decent depth guy to give me 25/25 maybe and he is signed for a few years.

5. He is essentially free this year since I traded $1 for $1, and next year and half of the year after. I gave up a 4th rounder two years from now that I don't hold much value for anyway so...

Now I need to get rid of a Wild player and a Panther and I will be content.

Yep, a good deal for you too. White is almost certainly useless. He will probably finish the season on my roster only after I try out a few rookies in his spot, then pick him up for the playoffs when none of them pan out icon_biggrin.gif

Vrbata should be a decent contributor for you, and probably cheap for only a late pick.
mrdannyg
Moneyshots are pleased to welcome Marc-Andre Bergeron back to the NHL. Though unluckily he'll have to share time with Spacek, at least he'll be playing! Should have a top-6 spot for at least the next couple months, and hopefully plays his way into the hearts and wallets of Habs fans.

Welcome back, monsieur.

Your first task is to hunt down Ryan Malone and Matt Carle, and stop them from beating me tonight.

Moneyshots are in shambles after day 2. Coming into the season with very high expectations, we put up the 7th-highest score on Saturday night, then the second-worst score with a decent lineup on a short night, losing to a Divison Rival with only 5 healthy players.

Offseason acquisiton San Jose Sharks Goaltending needs to get their shit together.

Let's see how that trade panned out so far...

To Danny:

Shea Weber
Filip Kuba
Salary

To Adam:

Jamie Benn (farm)
Whalers 2009 1st (used to select Ryan Ellis)
Flyers 2009 3rd (used to select Stefan Elliot)
Moneyshots 2011 1st
Moneyshots 2010 4th

Both sides are pretty good, I turned the package into a pretty good future, and Weber is obviously a beast on the blueline and will be for the remainder of his deal with the Moneyshots. I'm very happy to own Jamie Benn though, and I'm blown away by the fact that he's getting top line minutes with the Stars as a raw rookie, bodes very well for his chances to make a career in the top six in the NHL.

Agreed, I suppose. Benn playing in the NHL, never mind the first line, already would probably tilt it in your favour. Then again, I actually am feeling now less bad about the picks given up. I think the Kuba part (the 3rd and 4th) were a slight bargain, whereas the 1sts are not the superstars I was worried about. Ellis could easily be one, but that is still a ways off - and I don't think you made a mistake with your pick.

Weber needs 18-20 goals per year to make this deal work in my favour, and 35 points from Kuba would be nice.
mrdannyg
Some hot starts have made for tough decisions tonight:

At forward, I have Nash, Lecavalier, Savard, Cammalleri and Selanne pencilled in. Savard (@ NYI) will get the OT spot.

Decisions:
Kariya vs LAK
Briere vs ANA

on D, I'll start Weber, Rafalski and Spacek. Don't think Bergeron is playing yet, so he gets the sit.

Decisions:
Wisniewski @ PHI
Vlasic vs MIN
Kuba vs Atlanta

Goalie:
San Jose vs MIN
Nashville vs BUF

Kuba will probably sit in case he doesn't play. At the beginning of the year, I would've chosen SJ, Briere and Vlasic, but with the hot starts (bad start in case of SJ), and opponent strength, I'm leaning towards Nashville, Wisniewski and Kariya.

Opinions?
