Okay, so if anyone has heard of Body for Life (BFL) written by Bill Phillips its a about
getting in shape in 90 days and doing amazing transformations etc. Most people show
before and after pics and can win prize money. BP started a bunch of magazines
and supplement products and sold out to EAS for mega bucks.
I guess he was no longer contrctually obligated to not-compete so he started a new
website, www.transformation.com He regurgitates the old stuff but with a twist.
He proclaims to have a "transformation" process this time based on his research of
many religons and cultures and he strongly and often urges that "faith" is a huge
part of the process. He'll tell goofy little parables about faith and why you should
"trust" in the process.
About 8 years ago I did BFL and got into shape for the first time in my life. I slipped
and back in Feb I started up again. I was looking at some BFL websites to re-familiarize
myself with exercises and diets and came across transformation.com
I was pretty dismayed with all the religious content but did participate in the nutrition and
exercise forums a little. I kept getting emails from the site and finally had enough since
I thought the whole "process" he was selling (along with shakes, bars and books) was
getting ridiculous.
I posted in a forum questioning the faith and God portions of the process and had a lively debate
with many of the posters. It became ridiculous despite my severe attempt to maintain civility.
Posters would tell me to read the bible or other books and I would suggest they read "God Delusion".
I asked them why I should blindly believe what he was saying? In a way I believe that the guy is trying to
do good. Mostly I think that he thinks he's found a golden parachute with a fat peoples religon site that won't
question what he says and will buy his products. He has a radio show and is trying to get a TV show. The whole
thing reeks of a charlatan.
While fending off the assault of the religous zealots I kept poising certain questions.
Does this process prohibit an athiest from being truly happy if as Bill says, true happiness can only be achieved through faith?
Why should I blindly believe in his dogma? What evidence does he have of it being successful?
More simple stuff like that and I was banned so fast my head swam, lol.
To me it's typical religous bullshit. Believe what I say without question and don't stop
me from reaching my hand in your pocket and taking your money. It's a shame that he's taking a good thing
(health) and turning it into cult.
Anyway, i'm just posting this because I haven't been in this forum for a while and i'm kinda bored killing time at work.
If want go there and have fun.
