I don't know anything about badugi tournament strategy, but I'm pretty confident that the correct way to play this hand involves waaaay less calling. I'd guess that you should open-raise this hand, and call just about any action predraw. Cap after the first draw, probably put in one raise on the turn for value, and then go into calldown mode?

gau and bestmap were capping everything, even draws they shouldn't be taking, so I was letting them do the work for me...

876 isn't a good draw, and in the begining of a tournament I recomend you that play tight, cuz there are a lot of donkeys and ppl that will play loose and can have luck.
Gau don't know how to play, and was playing anything.
You said that bestman was playing anything, so you don't expected that he will have a good hand. (But he was you beat)
I don't know if bestman was a donk, but Gau surely was.
Your error was to play that hand (876), it isn't a really good hand to play.

Gau and bestman were capping with hands worse than 876 that they drew too, so it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that best would keep a dealt badugi worse than 876.
