Very early...but I'm going to New York in the Spring/Summer.... I want to take in a Yankee game.
Are there any tricks to getting a ticket or is it as simple as going to the website?

It depends on where you want to sit. Cheaper seats sold out faster last year. So if you want to spend $20 to sit in the bleachers, stubhub is your best bet. If you want to spend $125 to sit in decent seats, you can probably go on Yankees.com

It'll probably be my only Yankees game ever so I was thinking something around $80.... I read that tickets aren't as hard to get as they used to be because the economy and they raised prices so much. Here's a stupid question probably but is there like a cab line for after the game? I plan on taking a car to the game and I was wondering if there was a certain place for them to pick you up after the game.
(Seems odd to pay for a baseball game...I haven't paid for admission in 5 years and usually go to about 50 games per season but it's the Rangers....soooo)

Your best bet is to ask them where they usually drop you off. I've taken a bus to the game and they usually drop you off like 2 blocks from the stadium.

I don't think we're a better team without Damon. I'm not exactly sure what the Yankees plans are in terms of budget, but I was surprised that the Yankees didn't end up paying him about $10 million for a season or two. I don't know how much of this was the inability to negotiate a contract and how much was Cashman wanting to limit payroll.
I imagine that a lot of this involves being ready for the free agent class next year and being flexible to make trades during the year. I don't think Damon being gone is a huge loss, and he was a pretty big liability in left field, but he was a pretty tricky at bad and a real annoyance for opposing pitchers throughout the year.

After seeing the Yanks overpay for value so often in the past, it must sting Damon to be one of the guys who they obviously like but are not willing to overpay for. That said, he's clearly a sentimental dude and wanted to stay in NY, and it's sad to see yet another ball player get mishandled by Boras.
Go over to fangraphs and look at the $/expected wins they just inked Randy Winn for, and compare it to what Damon (Boras) thought he could get.

Even if a game is sold out, tickets are always available at the booth. The sellers always buy tickets themselves to scalp the day of the game. The later you arrive, the cheaper the seat. I got into the world series by asking around after the fourth inning for face value.

He's a sentimental dude? Really? He left the Red Sox to go to the Yankees because the Yankees gave him more money! Scott Boras is a greedy bastard and thats why Damon is no longer a Yankee. Boras thought if he waited it out the Yankees would cave in and give him more money. Gardner as a 9 hitter in left field is not that bad of a deal. Yes with Damon the Yankees are a better team, but think of how many shitty OF are on other teams and Brett Gardner is not terrible

Yeah, comparing Gardner to Damon doesn't seem right. He's our 9 hitter. We should instead think of Damon/Melky for Granderson/Gardner. I don't think there's a major gain or loss between those two.
However, I don't think Nick Johnson is as good as Matsui. I think we lost some talent there.

I may do this.... right now...the seats are running like $250 per for a good seat.
Unreal.
I'll just wait until the day before.... i mean it's like a Wednesday that I want to go.... not even playing a good team.
I would hope I could get a decent seat for 100 bucks or less.

eh, I think it's a wash
johnson is .402 obp carrer which is great... and a .447 career slugging pct which is about average... let's not forget he's a lefty in that ballpark so some of that pre-injury power may very well return.
matsui is a 370 career obp guy, 482 slugging.
Basically johnson is the obp guy, matsui has some more pop... they both are hampered by injuries.
their OPS+ numbers (which is a stat that ranks guys in accordance to the other players in the league, while also adjusting for park factors) has johnson at 125 career, and matsui at 124... 100 is average.

Maybe in a few years Gardner will be a leadoff hitter but he still needs time to develop.

I based this statement entirely on one comment I read about how the death of Cory Lidle really hit him hard and made him rethink his priorities and also made him want to stay in New York. Or something. I spent a full 45 seconds on google and can't find a citation.

Matsui played 1,768 consecutive games before apologizing to Yankee fans for breaking his wrist. Nick Johnson had 500+ PAs last season for only the 3rd time since 2001. I'm not arguing your overall premise, but "both are hampered by injuries" isn't really the whole story.

I was only talking about this point in there respective careers, yea Matsui was a guy who could play a bunch of games for you, but those days are long gone.... Now I would expect them to miss around the same amount of time. Matsui's legs sometimes make it hard for him to even DH everyday... as for johnson... who knows what happens after you break your femur.

Really awesome place to see a game...a bit pricey though. Sat between home and first...about even with the pitchers mound.... $1,000 per seat.
