Full Version: Glimmer Of A Book Idea I Had

By the way, on that note, I had a glimmer of an idea for a book or story or whatever (I keep having these lately but I just can't seem to make them go anywhere).

The idea was about the survellience cameras that you see everywhere in stores these days and also at stoplights etc. What would happen if all those cameras were available to law enforcement on the web? And what would happen if those cameras were required in every public business as well as at EVERY intersection?

Then took the idea of Obama's green economy and what would happen if private cars were prohibited within the city limits of every metropolitan area of say 100,000 population or more? Only buses, taxis and commercial vehicles allowed on city streets. Wouldn't need parking garages, wouldn't need parking lots, wouldn't really need meters, would have to have park and ride lots on the perimeter of the city with bus service to those lots. Lol taxis would cruise the park & rides in addition to the airports.

Of course the rental car business would go in the toilet unless they located by park & rides to catch people who wanted to rent a car to go someplace outside the city. Actually could be good for the rental car business since city residents probably wouldn't own a car and therefore would rent one when going outside the city. Of course it would keep the population under control since city residents would not only not be inclined to own cars but would be less inclined to travel. It would definitely be a win win as far as pollution and congestion on city streets.

And think about what would happen with crime? I would have to think that it would tend to decline since getaway vehicles would not be permitted and if they were there they'd stand out just because of the fact that they didn't belong. Hard to get away from the scene of the crime on bicycle or foot.

It's basically a set-up for a sci-fi novel but what I want is something that could credibly happen in the near future, not weird stuff. I find those sci-fi books to be far more creepy than the ones about aliens.

Anyway, what do you all think?

Phoenix has one of the most ****ed up airports in which I've ever had a layover. And the anti-smoking policy there was ridic.

So far your story about car parks and rental car agencies sounds like the most boring read in history. No offense, but usually a story has a story to it.

Hey, come on, let us be the judge of that... don't put yourself down

Yes, it was lame.

I've always wondered how a book/movie/year manages to operate a telephone. I must say, it seems a little implausible to me.

Now there's a glimmer of a book idea. I'm imagining a cross between Secret Window and Christine.

It's called suspension of disbelief. It's the same thing the Sickies use to fathom your relationship with Strat.

I have decided, instead of posting lame content of my own, to just judge content posted by others.

To show this exercise is valuable, my lame response would have been:

"England called. It wants its dry sense of humor back. Also: an extra "u" in humor."

In the future, you will be spared responses like this.

No, it wasn't just that. It was "By the way, on that note..." There was a SECOND clause in there implying that this thread was a digression from a previous conversation with which we were supposed to be familiar.

That would be like calling somebody up:

Person: "Hello?"

Wang: "I also wanted to say, speaking of which, that we have plans tomorrow night."

Person: "Huh?"

Wang: "Please be reminded!"

Doesn't seem like a bad idea. IMO
