So.. can someone give me a quick explanation to American licence plates?

Do you not have to have a numbers AND letters? Like, I see one there that just reads 'AARRR' (the pirate one)... how the hell can that be a plate?

And, can you just have whatever you want? Are personalized plates expensive there?

In the UK, the plates seem a lot clearer, and formal... and you're not allowed to decorate them like you seem to. You have 2 letters, followed by 2 numbers, followed by 3 letters, that's it.

oops. Don't really pay attention to what the CA plates looks like so I thought it was some coded things. With that I think it is time to start the weekend.

It depends on the state as to what letter/number combination a regular plate has. The "ARRRR" type plates are called vanity plates, and they're cost is dependent on the state. I wouldn't pay for one, because any amount of money is too much to look like a douchebag.

I see, thx.

Two more questions... Can you have anything you want? I see one with VAGINA, so could you just have F U C K, or are there limitations?

And, are there cross-state regulations, so that you don't get the same plate in different states... or can the same number exist in New York, and Florida for example?

There are limitations, but that plate actually just said AGINA... and they didn't notice it was on a Virginia vanity plate. It slipped through basically.

As for how much they cost, I believe if they have numbers AND letters, they're cheaper, and if they are letters only, they cost a little more, both of which cost more than just getting standard plates.

In our state any personalization is $50 on top of your registration. If you get a special plate, like the Virginia Tech one, that is another $50.

Also, any plate application goes through a computer and vulgarity or near vulgarity is thrown out. The trick is trying to beat the computer.

Flat fee of $50.... doesn't matter about letters or numbers.

I just renewed my personalized plates and it cost me $55.75 in VA. I've seen that Jetta with the "STFU-PLS" on the road before.
