So, let's assume somebody, not me, because I wouldn't do it, sent this email to Obama. Do you think they'd get in trouble:
----------------------------------------------------

Dear President Obama,

I thought you might be interested in this picture of a gun. I did not send this to you with any intention to threaten you or in any way make you feel uncomfortable. I only sent it to you because I feel you are a thoughtful and aesthetic person who can appreciate the photographic skills required to form this image. I in no way support the use of violence against anyone, especially a sitting president.

I hope you enjoyed this email and it made your day a little brighter.

Secret Service at your house yet?

Yeah, I looked for a better one, but I'm not a gun guy, so I didn't know what to search on, and all the cool ones I found were dynamic links, which are not allowed on here.

You know, I kind of posted this on a lark, trying to be mildly amusing, but the more I think about it and see the first couple reactions, it makes me wonder if you would get in trouble for it. I'm sure you'd be on a thousand watch lists, and probably get stopped at the airport every time forever... but is it really a crime? After all, the letter is explicitly non-violent and opposed to violence.

It turns out to be an interesting question in a free society.

You'd be the first man detained by Homeland Security for irony.

It's just a letter of the law vs. spirit of the law type of question.

I'm sure implied violence against the President is taken seriously.

That looks like a kimber .45, which is a sweet gun. But the clip only hold 7 rounds.

I'm a fan of a kimber. Not sure how many rounds she'll hold though.

The fact that you even posted it hypothetically on this forum would make you top 5 on Jack Bauers watch list.

while you're at it, write a letter to bvsh* wishing him a long life now that he'll have less secret service protecting him.

*name mis-spelled to avoid detection, i'm hiding in the bush

EDIT: that * may be my undoing.

Will he go to jail or get into real trouble from this? No, I doubt it.

But the government can be a real pain without convicting you. He could potentially be questioned, be put on every watch list, be audited, be denied visas, be forced to watch "3 1/2 Men," etc.

DENVER - A Colorado man has been indicted on charges of threatening to kill President Barack Obama and blow up the Mall of America suburban Minneapolis.

A federal grand jury in Denver handed up the indictment Tuesday against 20-year-old Timothy Gutierrez of Cortez. The U.S. attorney's office said today Gutierrez isn't yet in custody. He faces one count each of transmission of threats and falsely threatening to use explosives.

It claims Gutierrez emailed the FBI eight days before Obama's inauguration saying: "I'm going to assassinate the new president of the United States of America."

The indictment says a second email threatened to blow up the mall.

I'm racking my brain but I can't figure out how to get 'hblask' out of "Timothy Gutierrez".

In any event, I guess he got his answer.

imo just posting that is a horrible idea. there are keywords in your post which when used in conjunction probably put you on some interesting lists.

I'd delete it.

A picture of a well manicured noose woulda been more appropiate, while being less threatening.

My neighbor must've ordered a lot of stuff online; there's been a delivery truck with tinted windows sitting across the street for days!
