If you live in Virginia and enjoy playing poker or golf, this may interest you:

QUOTE
On Monday the Virginia Commonwealth Senate Subcommittee was scheduled to hear SB999, which would amend the definition of illegal gambling to include all games that include “an element of chance.” Click here to read the bill. However, the members on the Subcommittee tabled this overreaching bill until Thursday due in part because of the overwhelming response by concerned Poker Players Alliance (PPA) members like you.

On Thursday the Subcommittee is scheduled to hear the bill and then move it to the full Committee with a favorable or unfavorable recommendation. This bill as proposed would amount to one of the strongest anti-gambling statutes on the book in any state. If enacted, this bill would make it a crime for Virginians to play almost ANY game for a friendly wager, including bridge, chess, gin, rummy or even golf! It would also make unlawful charitable poker which is very popular in the Commonwealth.

What Can I Do?

Please call Sen. Linda T. Puller office today at (804) 698-7536 and tell them:

You are a constituent, a voter and a poker player.
You strongly oppose S.999 and urge the Senator to vote against this bill.
This bill would make playing charitable poker as well as friendly home games a crime! It would also impact other leisure activities that contain any "element of chance."
Playing poker is an individual choice I make and I hope Sen. Linda T. Puller won't let the government take that privilege from me.
Please tell Sen. Linda T. Puller I called and strongly urged him/her to oppose Senate Bill 999.
After you call, please tell us how it went by clicking here.

Please call today and keep Virginia from making poker a crime!

Proud to play,
Jeff Gregson

Call me ignorant, as I am not skilled in this virtue, but I fail to see any element of chance in chess. Am I right or wrong?

There's a possibility of a brain fart during the game which leads you to make a move that causes your downfall.
