Wow. Last year there many NLHE events at 2000 and under and I had been considering one of them this year. I don't see any this year. Why the drastic change? Are the pros tired of being dominated at the lower buy-in?

Oh. I didn't see where you said they were your events, Bro.

Guess I should have inferred that from the summary at the bottom of your post.

DN,

I take it from your schedule and the lack of a Main Event final table that they are trying the November Nine set up again?

I see you've mentioned Day 2 and 3s and FTs of some events, but others that would clash with other events start days have not been mentioned. Is this a case of if you're knocked out early in one tournament you will play the ones mentioned, but if you're knocked out of the events where you've listed all possible playing days then you'll rest instead?

I'm tired, and think I've worded that horribly, hope you know what I mean.

From His Blog:
Tournament Structures: These have not been released or finalized yet, but I want to share my thoughts anyway since this is a topic I'm very passionate about. Here is a simple fact, a fact that should make absolute sense to everyone: the higher the buy in, the more you pay in juice. The higher the buy in, the better the tournament structure should be.
This should be a given! So you shouldn't be shocked or surprised to see that the $5000 no limit event has a much better structure than the $1500 event. That's the way it should be across the board. The amount of play in any given tournament should be directly tied to the buy in. So, if you plan on playing the $1500 events, you should expect the structure to have a much faster pace than the $10,000 events.
One more thing: Since the smaller events require faster paced structures, when you devise a structure for the event you must cut corners and speed it up in certain spots. It makes a lot more sense to speed up play in the early stages so that when the big money is being played for, it doesn't become a crap shoot. If it's going to be a bit of a crap shoot at any point, then it should be in the early stages. For example, if you had to eliminate the 150-300 level from a $1500 event or the 1500-3000 limit from the event, which will have a more significant impact on the structure? Going from 100-200 to 200-400 is a big jump, but going from 1000-2000 and 2000-4000 at the late stages of an event would make it an absolute crap shoot. If you had to choose, it should seem obvious that omitting levels in the early stages is the best approach.

Daniel

In a way I agree with you, yes you should get a better structure in higher buy in events, but the 1500events should not have bad structures either. Your paying in the region of $150 in fees. This is a substantial amount of money, every table is effectively handing over 1 buy in and yet the tourneys get 3k chips, and not all the levels. This is not acceptable in my opinion. What needs to be done is to start out with the 1500events as a base point, implement a good structure for them, and for every other higher buy in event, improve on that. It is the World Series of Poker after all. I've played in $300 tourneys with better structures than the 5k events at the WSOP.

For starters, the 1500events should have 4500chips. 1hr clock, and a structure that goes like this:
25-50
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
150-300-25
200-400-50
300-600-75
400-800-100
500-1000-100
600-1200-200
800-1600-200
1000-2000-300
1500-3000-400
2000-4000-500
3000-6000-500
4000-8000-1000
5000-10000-1000
6000-12000-2000
8000-16000-2000
10000-20000-3000
And repeat from here adding zeros.

Every other structure can be an improvement on this. The 5k event should be 15kstarting with at least a 75min clock, preferably a 90min clock.

Hey Daniel, how come you're not playing either of the PLO8 events? It's a fun game and I'm sure it has a lot of value to it.

The $1500 structures ARE good. They are very good, but obviously not as good as other big events at the WSOP. The structure you put forth would create events that took far too long to complete. If you used this structure as a base structure for a $1500 event, good luck coming up with a much better structure for the $10,000 buy in events.
The WSOP offers close to 60 events. If you make all of the tournaments take five days, then people won't get a chance to play in many of the tournaments they'd like to play in.

How big do you expect the 40k to get and how much better of a structure is that going to have? I'm assuming 80k starting stacks and same levels as the main?

We haven't done the structures yet, but no, I don't think the structure will be as good as the ME, but I'm going to push for it. It's scheduled for four days...

I guess the worse structure, the better in my case. Against players of your caliber, my edge would be non existant at 100bb stacks, but slightly +EV in <25bb effective stacks imo.

There are a lot of world class NLHE players that butcher short stack play.
TheNumbersGame
I'm really curious (with the new tourneys and without the rebuy events) what the registrations will look like this year. More players at the ME or less? Thoughts?
Arsenic
hey Daniel, i'm just wondering how much ahead of time u have to register for WSOP events to play in them, and when registartion opens?
