I have no clue if anyone has ever discussed this before.

I'm really into stand up.

I thought we could do a thread where people talk about their favorite show/comedian, etc.

Me: Eddie Murphy......Delirious.

*For the record I have seen a ridiculous amount of stand up. This is just the best imo.
irishguy
Favorite shows I seen live were:

1) Doug Stanhope (a few times)

2) Dave Attel, Mitch Hedberg and Lewis Black.

3) Jim Norton

vbnautilus
Steven Wright.

My answer, though...

Andy Kauffman
Steve Martin
Eddie Izzard
Eddie Murphy
Chris Rock
Chappelle
Don Rickles (unintentionally funny)
Rodney Dangerfield ( same)
Doug Stanhope

For a pure stand up comedian I think its hard to top Geroge Carlin for his careers longevity and relevance. He was doing edgy shit right up until he died. Seen a lot of stand ups come and go and make a 20 year career out of being a one trick pony. Chris Rock is hillarious and judging from his last special he may have a similar career as Carlin in staying edgy and relevant over a long span of time. Eddie Murphy Raw and Delirous were hillarious but he never really followed them up so he cant be a all time great imo.

He's a genius. I was really impressed with his stuff. Saw him for the first time doing the Blue Collar deal. I felt sorry for Foxworthy because he had to follow him.

Having said that, I also watched Ron White's earlier stuff and he wasn't nearly as funny.

I guess it takes time....

I know, I just realized.

Perhaps we can ask a mod to move it?

Nice. I was trying to figure out a way to work that in there. I couldn't which explains at least partly why my name isn't bandied about in conversations about comedians such as these.
IQCrash
Jimmy Carr is a delight to watch. If you haven't caught his standup, I highly recommend it.

Louis C.K. is great as well. His latest DVD is a great, great showcase of his talent.

I saw Carlos Mencia live and he was hilarious. I really enjoyed the show.

Has anyone listened to Hedberg's new album?

chrozzo
robin williams
KowboyKoop
KowboyKoop
my real answers would be Hedberg and, I know a lot of people hate him...but Larry the Cable Guy. The "git r done" thing is annoying...but seriously, his technique and actual routine are great.

This clip from the early 90's cracked me up the first time I saw it, he used to look so completely different than he does now...

I've seen this. He changed a couple of words in some of the stuff. It's interesting, you can see how much better he is now compared to that time.

Burning that shirt improved his stage show tenfold all by itself.
beans-n-icewater
Though technically not a stand up, this guy is funnier off stage than on

He built a helicopter in his garage but it was too big to remove, so he used a Hummer with a winch and forced it out

Amazingly it just made a few marks on the concrete

And yes, it somehow flew

Oh, did you ever find my purple and maroon Treasure Island hat along I fifteen, Steve?

Ill be absolutely shocked if you remember that

It was many moons ago...

It blew off my head somewhere between Baker and Jean not long before you left LA headed toward Vegas and I asked you to keep an eye out for it

I hated it anyway, but since it was given to me by a floorman after stubbornly fighting and losing against their damned continuous shuffle machines I told everyone Id wear it until it rotted off my head

Anyway...good to see you again sir
wsox8

saw him in Vegas and loved it
DinkDonk
Jim Gaffigan, Nick Swardson, and when I'm high- Jim Breuer. All make me laugh pretty consistently.

and, at 12:55 there are a couple of dead ringers for Kathy Najimy and Christina Hendricks or possibly they actually are Kathy Najimy and Christina Hendricks

oh. sorry to go off the topic but do you want to see something infuriating about Christina Hendricks? http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/026He6B63Ih0Q/340x.jpg that's the boyfriend or fiance or husband or whatever

If I was religous I would pray to Bill Hicks.

I'm ridiculously obsessed with him.

Balloon guy

I was at a celebrity poker tournament in the desert, old celebrities, Dick Van Patton's buddies etc., and Shecky Greene did the show.

Man for a guy that is over 80, he was funny, current and sharp.

In the 70's he used to make over $125,000 a WEEK headlining on the strip.

He is my bar for all stand up comedians

I <3 u christian. Robin Williams is my fav stand up comedian. Steve, you might want to check out some of his classics.

1979 - Reality, what a concept!
Mid 80's - A night at the Met (possibly my favorite stand-up routine ever)
2002- Robin Williams live on Broadway

And also check out some Dave Chappelle. His 2004 performance, For What It's Worth, is also a classic. smile.gif

If you get a chance, check out DC Benny.

He's not AMAZING, but he is one of the few comics that make me laugh out loud.
