With his firing he is now the Jets top candidate. Sunday I was guessing that if Magina was fired that Cowher was getting the job. Now with this firing, this will give Cowher more time to maul over the decision of coaching, and Mike will come into the spotlight of the Jets organization and will be their head coach. Sunday I also said Magina would be going to Cleveland. This is looking more and more likely by the minute with Romeo perhaps staying on as the DC or coaching somewhere on that defense.
Coaching Vacancies:
New York Jets- Mike Shanahan
Cleveland- Eric Magina
Detroit- Leslie Frazier (Minnesota's DC)
Oakland- This is tough but I'm going with somewhat of a wildcard her and guessing Jim Harbaugh. If not then don't be surprised if Jim Fassel comes back to coach.
Denver- #1 Jason Garrett. He will have a reason to get out of Dallas because of all the commotion with everyone wanting the ball and it's not like he's going to a bad team. #2 Josh McDaniels. With this explosive offense and being under BB, this gives McDaniels the same kind of offensive talent that he has being the OC in New England.
Possible Vacancy:
Buffalo- Well as of right now, it looks like Dick Jauron is keeping his job via ESPN. If I were to have guessed here, it would have been Steve Spagnoula. Buffalo does have some defensive talent so bringing in a great defensive mind would have been the right play here.

I am confident that Shanny takes at least a year off. He is getting like $20 million, he is in no rush.

Well as much of an big headed ass Shanahan is, do you really think he passes up a job coaching in the NFL's mainstreamed city?

Word on the street here in Denver says he'd take an East Coast job, but not much else.
Also, this was very shocking for me and everyone I've talked to.
Yeah, Denver shit the bed this year, but with 7 starting backs hurt was it 100% his fault?
Brandon Marshall said he had so many drops because he's had 'numbness' in his hands for a year or two now. WTF?
Anyway, I would consider Mike's player and personnel decisions the last few years as better reasons for his termination.
He's shit the bed in the draft with a couple of exceptions, he shit the bed with maurice clarett, among other things.
I guess I understand Bowlen's move here, I just don't see anyone who can replace him and do any better next year. I could be wrong though.

As much as I hate to see Rex Ryan go, I will be surprised if we hold onto him for another season. We were fortunate to keep him for this season, I do not see that happening again. He is consistently has one of the best defenses in the league and his ability to connect to his players and keep them motivated is remarkable.

If Buffalo would have fired Jauron, then that would have been a likely spot for him.

I think it would be interesting to see Oakland hire him so you'd have Rex as the head coach and his brother as the DC. I do not believe you can discount Cable's chances of staying as the head coach next season (though Al Davis may fire him 3-4 games into the season).

I was hoping to god that Ralph Wilson would get on the phone with Shanahan the second he was fired. Not like he would be willing to pay a top tier head coach or anything.

I'm 1.5 for 2 =). Figured it'd be one or the other. Denver definately has potential on defense. Wonder who they'll bring in as a DC now. I'm kind of shocked they didn't bring in Marienelli for they're DL Coach at least.

I got home and saw Raheem Morris was most likely taking over. Would of figured him or Frazier would most likely have gotten it. If anything new develops I'd say Frazier gets it since of him knowing the Cover 2 scheme fairly well.

What a remarkable talent drain on the NFL coaching front in the past four offseasons, at least if you measure it by Super Bowl rings. Think about this: Dick Vermeil retired after the 2005 season. Bill Parcells and Bill Cowher leave the sidelines after the 2006 season. Joe Gibbs retires again after the 2007 season, and Brian Billick is fired. And this year, Tony Dungy and Mike Holmgren get out of the game, while Shanahan and Gruden are fired.
Those nine coaches have won a combined 13 Super Bowl rings, leaving New England's Bill Belichick and New York's Tom Coughlin as the only active NFL coaches who have won Super Bowls. That says it all.
