Being from Detroit the talk of the town each week on sports radio has revolved around the Lions possibly going 0-16.

No team has ever performed this monumental task of sucking all 16 games and with the exception of this week, I think it is a lock they do the impossible.

Does this officially make them the worst team in NHL history? Is it bad for the league if they do indeed lay a goose egg this season?

The issue locally is that if you live here you don't want them to go 0-16 as it will be a bad mark on Detroit. Really? A bad mark on a city that already is covered in bad marks? I don't think the record of the football team puts Detroit over the edge. Another issue is that real fans don't root for 0-16. Well that is good, I hate the Lions and have for years, so no issue there. Many fans though claim they want a 0-16 season so that the Fords will be embarrassed and get off their ass and blow this team up. Some "experts" say that firing Millen after 6 games was the blowing up of the team and that we need to support the team because they will be a playoff team in 3 years once we get a new GM, new coaching staff, and all the 1st round picks we have next year. But we have fired GM's many times in the past and we go through coaches like I go through payday candy bars but this team still never competes year after year.

What's the national consensus on this team and if you were a fan or lived here what are your opinions on your team going 0-16?

They got rid of the biggest problem in Millen, now they just need to go about undoing all the fucked up shit he did. They have what should turn out to be a franchise level WR in CJ, and a few other okay pieces to build on. I'd expect that in two years you won't recognize most the players there.

That was what we expected right before they hired Millen....trouble wasn't all Millen, the trouble is still the Ford family. The NFL has offered to help them find a new GM who will turn this ship around and they told the NFL to mind their own business. If Reese or that other guy...damn forgot his name.

Maranelli was in meetings with CJ this past week on an exit plan allegedly.

What other pieces do you think they have to build on? CJ if they can keep him here and Kevin Smith. No one else on this team right now starts anywhere else in this league. Sims has gotten progressively worse year after year. This is a common topic on the radio and the most they ever come up with is Calvin, Kevin, maybe Ernie, and that Avril kid. Everything else is either untalented crap, untalented veterans, or players brought in over the years by Maranelli from Tampa Bay's practice squad.

So far they're taking the right steps, hopefully they can make that trade with Dallas worth it by picking up some solid rookies.

But to answer your question, I do not think the Lions going 0-16 will make them the worst NHL team ever.

There's not much difference between zero wins and one win, but as a Miami fan I was pretty relieved they got at least one last year. A 1-15 team can at least fade into history with the other shitty one-win teams over the years. I wouldn't wish the distinction of 0-16 on any fans.

Ever since the days of Barry Sanders, I always sort of felt bad for Lions fans that they couldn't ever put it together.

I want to see them go 0-16 because I think this organization deserves it. It's sp easy to see how little the organization cares about the fans and more importantly, winning, when you see the other 3 teams and what their owners and GM's do day in and day out. It has to be embarrassing if they ever get together. We have arguably the best GM in the NHL right now in Kenny Holland. Before the cap came into effect you could say that thanks to Illitch's deep pockets he could buy stanley cups but now that the cap has cut the Wings salary in half and he still fields Cup winners and again, cup contenders, it just has to make Ford and Millen, when he was here, feel small.

Illitch also owns the Tigers. Sure they faltered and it didn't work last year but he clearly is TRYING to field a contender. Mistakes happen and I as a fan can accept that but I cannot accept what the Lions have done the last decade. Ford has said it himself, Millen did as well, the fans don't matter, they like what they have and they make money so STFU. And that is true in the NFL, a team does not need to fill the stands to make money, they make their money elsewhere. This weeks Lions game is blacked out as there are 8K tickets left and this will be the 4th blackout this year.

Some say I am a fan since I clearly show frustration. I guess my answer to that is I listen to sports radio all day every day and 70% of it revolves around the Lions. This is a football town. What gets my motor running is the idiocy of the people who still support this team, still buy tickets. They raised the ticket prices this year. I don't know how I could justify spending more for a worse package on top of all the financial problems going on in this area. That is what makes me mad.

I also don't agree with the well they are taking steps in the right direction with the firing of Millen. The Fords are still at the helm...they have yet to get it right, there is a stronger chance of them hiring Howie Long (this has been discussed, Ford loves him) rather than someone like a Chip Reese. Ford is just as culpable as Millen was in this situation.

Flip a coin between the Lions and Bengals.

I heard Bob Glauber talking on the radio about the Bengals and how they are so cheap that all the players only get issued one pair of workout shorts, one towel, etc. for the whole season, that's just how they operate. I'm not sure the Lions are like that, but if so they are right up there.

Obviously!! lol. Man I went to the Killian/Northwestern game last night and NW has some studs on OL/DL. One of their DL already committed to UM and he's like 6'2 290 and only a JR. Killian's RB who committed to UM is going to be really good I think. He's got such good vision and I love how he runs the ball.

I was a big Jamal Lewis fan in college, just liked his running style, and when the Ravens drafted him I thought it was the perfect fit for that offense at the time, especially with the defense.

I also like Ed Reed (obv.) and Ray Lewis. I was at a point about 6-8 years ago where I didn't have "a favorite team" so to speak, so I just kind of adopted the Lions in the NFC and Ravens in the AFC based off of the players I liked.

Big game Sunday for Baltimore. After giving Pitt. the last one they need to win this one, especially with some tough games down the stretch, don't want to finish 9-7. 10-6 may not even make the playoffs with NE, NYJ and MIA all 8-5 and relatively easy schedules.

They don't only suck this season...they have sucked forever.

Even when they had possibly the greatest RB in NFL history...they sucked.

Imagine if he had the O-line of the late 1980's Dallas Cowboys.

True

True

Oh no, not that discussion again...

Edit: This week should be HI-larious. At least it will be in TV so I can laugh on a nice Sunday afternoon.

Not only are they playing the Colts (and jeez, Colts get Cinci and then the Lions right after, must be nice to slump and then get these two teams back to back) but they have no QB.

Dante is out with a shoulder injury
Orlovsky is back at practice but still having trouble with his recently broken hand.
Stanton just cleared after his concussion
Henson sucks balls

I see a 50+ points scored this week in Indy.

No, I say you are a fan because you keep using " we" in talking about them. Hate to break it to you, but only fans do that. You claim to hate them, but you obviously feel connection to them, even if it's on a sub conscious basis. Shame on you for being such a self loather.

I have a connection for sure. They have been my hometown team for 31 yrs. Hard to not have a connection there. But I don't get up on Sunday and root for them, I don't clap when they score a TD, I do not own one piece of Lions merchandise, I don't go to games, and I am always happier with a loss. Ask my wife how I was last year when they started 6-2. Six terrible Sundays but the last 13 have been great. Even better now since they blackout the home games and I can watch a different game with two actual teams.

But get a new gm, new coach, show me they are trying to put together a team that will compete and I am sure I will be back rooting for them and going to games. But the last 5 or 6 years since I denounced my support, my Sundays are sooooooo much better. I also feel less stupid than in the past when every preseason I would boast about how my Lions were going to be for real that year only to be embarrassed. I carry a lot of baggage with this team, no doubt. But I won't consider myself a true fan of this team. If I did, I would be a really shitty one.
Piddle Duck
I think the Lions win this week. Not because of Bush being out. Danny O is probably our best bet at QB and him and CJ have a good repertoire with each other. NO just lost all their chances at the post season. So you have one team DYING for a win and another whose season ended last week. If the Lions have any chance of winning it will be this week. No I would not put money on it. But wanted to post it so it's there for people who won't believe me when they do win.

Probably a bust. But that will be from drinking the Lion kool-aid. They have never had a good QB in the last 30 years I would imagine and I don't think he is the key.

What they need to do is get Curry or some OL as the first pick and then get some Defense the rest of the way. They will still suck this year and have a top pick next year and then you go after a QB. I think there are much better choices next season. Instead they are going to take a QB, and as a first pay him a ridic amount of money before him ever actually suiting up and throwing a pass in the NFL and they will still have no OL to protect him. It's just stupid. They do not need a QB right now. It's a waste of a $ and a 1st pick.

But they are unveiling the new logo and uniforms at the local Dunham's in 90 minutes.

since I'm in the Bay Area, I don't get to see these last 2 minutes. Even though the Lions came back, I still thought the Cardinals would score one last time and stop the Lions. Might be headed that way. I'll just have to wait and read.

edit: well i got the red zone channel to load just in time to see them not convert on 4th down. it was a tale of two games and two final drives which went different directions
