I didn't think it was that good. If I was rating it on Netflix, I'd give it a 2.5 which is actually impossible to do on Netflix so this sentence doesn't make total sense. I'm not saying that I didn't like it but I wouldn't say that I liked it either so it'd go under the many movies I rate as a 3 but I'd rather give slightly less than a 3. I have to say that my experience might've been ruined by people in the theatre laughing at things that weren't funny though that seems somewhat doubtful. For the first half-hour I felt like 'ok they're just setting up and we'll soon get to the point where everything starts to move'. Unfortunately, while the switch did turn, it didnt change much. Basically it didn't live up to its potential. The concept was top notch but they didn't produce in that 'Coen Bros' way that they usually do.

I think this is one I need to judge for myself.

You guys have me now highlighting every post.

BTW, I saw it and thought it was a solid 4.5 outta 5.
dapokerbum
That's FANTASTIC!

Other than that ... I agree with a 3 out of 5. It probably gets better with more viewing.

yea I'll definitely give it another go but I still say not up to Coen Bros par

I agree that it started sort of slowly and wasn't quite as good as I had hoped. Also, I expected more of a straight comedy so the two brutal murders sort of caught me off guard.

All in all, I ended up enjoying it but I just had the wrong idea of what sort of movie it would be going in.

i loved it.. I didn't think it was in their pantheon ( No country, big lebowski, fargo, Hudsucker, and Miller's crossing) but right below it.. hilarious.. and I will probably like it more upon repeated viewing. It is to spy movies what Miller's is to gangster pics or big lebowski is to film noir... it absolutely slayed me.

One thing, I'm not sure how to feel about the brad pitt role.. I'm not sure if the part was really that funny, or if it was funny because it was brad pitt.. I felt like it got a lot of " hey, look at brad pitt be goofy" milage.

All the characters were outstanding, as usual. That's the Coen's greatest strength is having amazing, hilarious, unique characters. .

really? I find it hard to believe that we'd have such different opinions on this. maybe the people who were laughing way too hard anytime brad pitt made a non-normal face affected me.

Yeah.. I thought it captured the absurdity's of spy movies perfectly.. and little touches, like the Cold war Russian embassy and the online dating stuff slayed me. Like I said, I didn't think it was pantheon good or anything, but it made me laugh out loud, and few movies do that.

I'm thrilled that you liked it so much because this thread had me worried and we are basically the same person when it comes to movies.

I just saw this and this is pretty much how I saw. JK Simmons killed me.
