I am more than happy to support in any way I can the eradication of the fuckers who took part in that horrible tragedy 7 years ago.

But buying a coin is not the way to do it. You really think not buying a coin is being liberal? You think watching a 1 hour special on CNN or the History Channel is the way to pay your respects to the thousands who lost their lives? I don't and as a American I have that freedom, remember?

AS LG said yesterday in another topic, take a break during the day and have a moment of silence.

I decided to do some nice things for people, help them out. I also took a minute to think about 2 people in my life that lost their lives that day and also the people who I know who survived. No one makes a profit from that. No one gets better ratings to help get more advertising money as well.

I am not a liberal. I just think there are better ways to pay respect to the fallen. If that makes me an asshole, then hallelujah!

I didn't know anybody who died in Pearl Harbor, did you?

nope. wasn't really inferring anything with that either, just kind of an observation. you never really hear anybody (except really old people I guess) talking about that anymore, but you'd think it should still be remembered or at least acknowledged. what would be better for the country? letting it slip away like dec 7th, or reminders every year like sept 11th?

Well, I'm sure there were reminders every year in the 40's and 50's. Then slowly it becomes a part of history rather than current events. The same natural process will happen with 911. No point in arguing with that process.

we forgot december 7th.

yeah, and that was a "day that will live in infamy"

I have no real memories of 9/11. I had just started a new job and was at work, where we had no tv's or anything. I was at work till 5pm, and by the time I got home, they stopped running the horrifying video that is etched in everyone's mind. I don't know anyone that was killed, nor do I know anyone that knows anyone that was killed, that I know of. Actually, I may know one guy, a NYC Cop that knows some of the people that died, but I digress.

Doesn't mean I don't feel bad for the people and the families that died, but over time, even the public sort of turned on the families, to some degree, what with all the stories of widows plowing through the millions of dollars that were gifted to them, thousands of people making money scamming disability through 9/11, and all the other scams, etc. There is a whole seedy underbelly to this tragedy that doesn't get talked about. I do feel bad that kids lost their parents, wives lost their husbands, husbands lost their wives and parents lost their kids, but I was sickened that some of these people felt they were entitled to money because this happened. If they went to work and were shot by an angry co-worker, no money would've been handed out and nobody would've cared. Just a cynical side to it. Not to mention the exploitation of coin companies, commemorative t-shirts, tv shows, etc.

Like I said, it was a horrible tragedy and I feel bad for people that were affected. But having a touchy debate on an off-topic poker forum does seem silly. You can't preach to people by uttering platitudes like "never forget". If people want to forget or not care, that's their business. "They hate us for our freedom." I've rambled. Bye
