I love going back over old drafts and look at some obscure picks and imagine what if.

There are 100s of them..Here a few fun ones.

In 1995 the Montreal Canadiens with the 8th pick overall drafted left winger Terry Ryan
players picked after Ryan ..Jerome Iginla, Marty Biron, Petr Sykora
Terry Ryan's last played for the Cincinnati Cyclones in 2003 before finally giving up

to show no bias here is a Leafs doozy draft year

in 1989 the year Mats Sundin went first the Leafs had 3 first round picks
They chose Scott Thornton, Rob Pearson and Steve Bancroft.
They could of had Bill Guerin, Bobby Holik,Olaf Kolzig, Adam Foote
Only Scott Thornton has had a decent career.

One of the worst 1st overall picks of all time in 1999 the Atlanta Thrashers picked Patrik Stefan first overall
ahead of the Sedin twins among others..Stefan played 3 games in the Swiss league last year.

There are tons of others..its fun to look back.

I thought for sure this thread was going to be Serge deciding what the Leafs should do with the #1 overall pick next year.

The Kings win this hands down, look at all of the traded 1st round draft picks to other teams that became stars. Ray Bourque, Tom Barrasso. The list is down right scary. They didn't keep a first round pick for like the first 20 years of their franchise.

We in Boston like to do it backwards. We wait for our #1's to become huge stars, and then trade them for 3 nobodys.

We in San Jose thank you. If you want to give us Marco Sturm back, though, we'll take him.

It's still funny to me (and horrible for you) because he was by far playing the best on the team. It's like they said, "he's making everyone else look REALLY BAD. Let's get rid of him."

from the brilliant Onion newspaper:

BOSTON—The Bruins agreed to terms Monday with 2005 second-round draft pick Petr Kalus, signing him to a three-year contract that NHL insiders predict will be just long enough for Kalus to evolve into an All-Star-caliber player before his inevitable trade to the perennial playoff contender Philadelphia Flyers. The Czech Republic native will follow former Bruin greats Sergei Samsonov and Joe Thornton in continuing the tradition of Boston players who were traded immediately before their breakout season. "We look forward to obstructing Petr's development during his three frustrating years in Boston, although we certainly dread watching his much better career after he blossoms into the Flyers' top point scorer," Bruins interim GM Jeff Gorton said. "I wouldn't be surprised to see him score 30 goals in a season, many of them against us." Over his three years in Boston, Kalus is expected to endure a brief stint in the minors, be called up by the cellar-dwelling Bruins, battle a series of avoidable minor injuries, get traded for two draft picks and a player to be named later to Philadelphia, and begin his run at being named MVP in 2009, 2010, and 2013.

yeah, he was amazing with montreal. everything you've heard to the contrary can be safely ignored as media bias.

Just to let you know. Terry Ryan still plays Senior hockey in Newfoudland and competes for the Herder Cup every year. He was also on Season 1 of the popular Road Rockey Rumble show aired on OLN.
