Do you guys think Sidney Crosby is a whiner. Obviously the sample size of Penguin fans in there, the results might be a little off..But if we get 50 people I think it will be fair..

It's a just dumb question.

Obviously the Yes's should win because whether most people believe it or not they are gonna vote yes.

If he played in a blue and white jersey and he took a shit in your living room you'd still be defending him day and and day out.

Here is a little bit from Crosby's wikipedia page

Through his first season, Crosby was accused by opposing players and coaches of taking dives and complaining to officials, which has been attributed to his youth.[22] He became the first rookie to earn 100 penalty minutes and 100 points in the same season, which magnified his reputation for complaining to NHL officials.[21] Hockey analyst Kelly Hrudey compared Crosby to Gretzky, who had a similar reputation as a "whiner" in his youth, and suggested that as Crosby matured, he would mellow out and his reputation would fade

Why is the media always wrong to you.....except when you want them to be right? Just wondering...

I dont understand why its a dumb question. Its a major criticism that Crosby has endured in his short career. He has a lot of talent but has been accused of whining and diving. I dont think I am making this up.

Good question.

The media in the Toronto area that follows the Leafs is not necessarily wrong, but over the top and creates tension for the team where there isnt any.

Your a fan of him so I'll bring it up...

Sean Avery is 10x the diver/whiner that Crosby is...but not even 1/10th the player.

I think I am correct in creating this poll that it should create lively discussion as the vote should be close. However its not politically correct and the people on my side wont voice their concerns.

I wont argue with that..I think their games are a little different, and Sean Avery isnt the chosen franchise player who has been annointed the saviour in Pittsburgh and the United States.

I voted NO. When he first came into the NHL he had a tendency to "whine" when things didn't go his way. I know another player (he wore #99) who did the same thing when he first came into the league. When you consider the age of these players and the money that is thrown at them you have to wonder how they don't end up more like child actors do. Plus, a whiner to me is someone who complains about things and sulks when they don't go his way. I suggest you take the time to watch a game in which Crosby is playing. He plays with a bulldog tenacity that reminds me of John Tonelli and no whiner ever plays that way.

P.S. Leafs suck! In fact, they suck so much that I think you are even starting to realize it and are looking for other things to discuss so you won't be left to think about how much they suck. And one more thing...the Leafs suck.

Yes I agree with some of your comments and I agree with some of your comments. But for once I like to see Crosby get a penalty and not act like he just saw a ghost of Tim Horton and take it like a man.He does work hard and combined with the talent is what makes him special.

Lets face it Mario Lemieux was probably the most talented player ever to play the game, but he was always accused of not playing up to his full potential. Thats up for debate but I know Crosby does try but he needs to get more mature.

I voted yes, for now. Hes clearly a bit whiny, and I certainly think at times he has cause to whine because even with these new rules the refs still seem to let him get mugged like crazy some nights. Hes definitely gotten much better of late, and I can definitely see him getting better going forward. I've heard some bad stories about him for sure, but at his age with that money youre bound to have some less than stellar moments. I met him in London in 2004 during the mem cup and he was nothing but class, so I look forward to him being the next great face of the league going forward for sure.
runthemover
he was a whiner in his first season

after that he stopped / took it back a notch

my vote is no
doox
He's so incredibly competitive, that he plays with a lot of passion and grit. Of course he's going to get pissed during games, but he channels it so much better than he did his first season. Keep in mind that the media microscope has been on him years before he got drafted, so of course everything he does will be magnified. Those that resent the hyping of a player so young will go out of their way to try to bring him down a notch. The diving and whining accusations started mostly from division rivals like Philly and the Rangers. In fact, one of the games Crosby got the most accusations thrown at him was when Hatcher repeatedly crosschecked him in the head and ended up breaking his teeth. If I recall, this is how that game ended:

Now that he's a captain, idiots still bitch when he talks to the refs. That's part of the job, but again - he's still unfairly portrayed by fans of teams that he's helped beat over the last few years, and will likely only get the credit he deserves when he's close to retiring.

This has nothing to do with the thread but I'm a fan of this goal.

Is Crosby a chronic diver? Probably not. Does he dive? Yes. Do the refs give him the benefit of the doubt? yes

There were 2 examples in the Pittsburgh v Ranger playoff series I can remember. One, Ii am pretty sure he dived, the 2nd I am pretty sure he did not. I don't see enough regular season Penguin games to say for certain and I think it is still early in his career to have that label but there is definetly room for improvement.

I'd say he dives more than the average player...but that's because he has to put up with more abuse than the average player. I don't recall him getting sent to the box too often for diving though...so he's pretty good at it.
serge
This poll has proven to be pretty close..12-10 in favour of no is not bad, considering out of those 22 I bet 10 are pens fans..

BTW..I like Sidney Crosby as a hockey player, but I would like him to improve his attitude a little bit. He is a hell of a talent and a guy who literally gives it a 100%, never seen him take an off shift..But when he gets a penalty, I like him to for once not have that look on his face like NO WAY ME AGAIN...I am sure he will mature as he gets older.

Overall good kid.

Absolutely no idea. I just stole it from some thread in Gen Po.
