I have very rarely played any HU matches but am looking to get into it. I played one earlier this morning with the expectations of me getting ready to learn. Unfortunately my opponent was pretty weak or he just never hit anything so my bets or high cards took a lot down.

I went into the game planning to play my main stay of aggression from the button, like Im sure most do HU. I went with a min raise approach to start to find out what type of player I was up against and then adjust from there. I ended up keeping the min raise till the bigger 100/200 blinds.

I guess my question would be, does everybody go in with a set approach to each game vs a new opponent then adjust after 20-25 hands or how is it best to go in.

After watching Daniel on PokerVT I have been dominating HU play. Yes I go in with a set strategy and stick too it throughout.

Don't have a set strategy in poker, basically ever. HU varies a lot and in some spots you'll be happy getting it AIPF with ATo and if that same spot happens later in the match, you might fold AQ depending on how things are going.

Just bet and raise a lot, seems to work for ^ that guy.

It depends.

dont get too tricky early on. figure out how your opponent plays (is he/she weak, does he/she take shots at pots etc)
and then work your strategy to the type of player he/she is.

In general just be aggressive. your opponent will hit the flop only 1/3 so the other 2 times you can bet and
take it down is cruacial.

When you are comming into a pot you should raise most of the time and almost always make a continuation bet.
if you get called once dont be afraid to fire more than once at the pot.

thats all I can really think of right now.

The best HU strategy is to play very agressive, raise and reraise a lot.

PokerStars (2 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K, 7. Button posts a blind of 10.
Button (poster) raises, Hero raises, Button calls.

Flop: A, K, 5 (2 players)
Hero bets, Button calls.

Turn: 9 (2 players)

Can you guess what he called me with that ended up losing my match?

EDIT: No idea why the bet values are missing. He raised to 60 I reraise to 180. Flop I bet 200.

In HU, it's very important to realize that your hand will be the best hand 50% of the time, don't be afraid to raise even during the first few moments of a game. Also, do anything to keep your opponent psychologically unbalanced such as showing bluffs (if appropriate) or constantly raising.

i like daniels strategy bigger pots in position smaller pots out, min raise PF bet half pot. Very systematic then jsut adjust to your opponent. I run good on Stars but on TILT every time ill get a chip lead and blinds get high I get shoved into with A rag vs AK or even KK and I have lost the last 2 becasue of races late when I got it in a huge favorite. But I always amass a chiplead
