just bought/ read it... very good book overall but it's worth buying just for the section where TJ discusses his "road gambling stories"...
here's a taste:
called "the worst bad beat of all time"
Al Krux had been losing a lot and brought in for his last $435. everybody folded and TJ called with 10-10 figuring the most he could lose was that $435. Another player (who was getting a massage at the time) held his cards up (which other players saw) and folded. The dealer didn't see that TJ had called and threw the deck onto the muck. Floorman said the hand could be played but every card had to be shuffled except for the 4 total cards the players held. flop came down K-10-4. al had trip kings against TJ's set of 10s. the turn brought another 10 and won the hand for TJ...
the player getting a massage had folded pocket 10s and they were reshuffled and dealt to give TJ his quads

I thought this was an exceptional book. TJ has won more tournaments than anyone else (to date...Daniel is on the loose now) for some good reasons. He's aggressively defensive. There are some great nuances in this book that I'm certain new people to poker will not have found elsewhere even if they have read a bit.
The sections on example hands are great too.
And yes, the road stories...worth it. I liked TJ's name for "AK"..."walking back to Houston."

I did not like the book because it was too conservative and it is nothing like the style he plays on TV. Hard to believe him when he doesn't practice what he preaches.
Liked Phil Gordon's Book much better! Very entertaining!

Everyone mixes it up once in a while or they become too predictable/readable. I think most books are guidelines with sound principles, but they aren't iron clad. This book is no different, but there are many principles in here that we/people could stand to learn.

mcevoy could have sat this one out.. TJ has great stories... the scenarios at the end were hilarious... I am glad the printed 15 different ways to play AA and KK ... every other situation says to fold a hand... Not useful unless ur playing a 10k buyin and the blinds go up every 2 hours... most tourneys blinds move too fast for this book to help..

It's a good read, but you have to cut through a lot of BS. I think it could be half as long and $15 if the "So I'm around back with pocket queens and got broke" stuff were cut out.
