I love where they're taking the Bond movies, away from the cartoon character and into a much darker place.
Also, Daniel Craig is the best actor to ever play Bond and he was a great choice.

The Craig Bond is the closest representation of the Bond from the books that they have ever had. I've only read one of them but my Dads read them all and hes delighted about the new Bond

I think Craig has been amazing. But, you want to hear something weird? I just listened to a Bond book on tape during a road trip. This book was not written by Ian Flemming, but it was written by some dude as Ian Flemming. Anyways...as I was listening to it, I kept seeing Pierce Brosnan as Bond in my mind's eye even though I like Craig the best.

I believe Timothy Dalton was close to the origional books too. I'm a big fan of the change, I used to be a massive Bond fan, but after the last Brosnan flick it was dead to me. Awesome change of direction, i'm lookin fwd to the new one.

Yeah, that movie's going to kick some serious ass.
I love the new trend of making action movies good. You know? Between Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Quantum of Solace, Jason Bourne, etc etc. It seems as if there was a meeting in Hollywood where the producers said, "You know what, instead of making a bunch of shitty movies, let's actually hire decent actors, directors, and writers. Maybe that'll make the movie better."

I love how we all know that Dark Knight is going to be awesome. It's like when Knocked Up still hadn't came out yet, but the trailers for Superbad were advertising that it is from the same director as Knocked Up.

pretty good. not sure how I'd compare it to the first one. I'd say it'd be hard to judge them separately until the storyline is complete. I think that's the way they're doing it anyway.
quite a bit shorter than the first. I was a bit surprised that it was pretty good since my local newspaper only gave it 2/4 and I generally agree with them (I think).

I really enjoyed the movie. It was Bond kicking ass...what more do you want? I know a bunch of people who didn't like it because they said it was more of a Bourne movie than a Bond movie. I disagree. Just cuz there's a lot of action doesn't make it not Bond. Daniel Craig is a beast.

The one thing that really bugged me was that Bond never said "Bond, James Bond." I read a couple of months ago that it wasn't going to be in the movie, but it still bothered me. There were a couple of places where it could've fit.

unless I'm mistaken, Bond was never referred to as 007.
the action was pretty good in the film but I didn't enjoy the story as much as the first. I was hoping for more than just a series of action sequences.

Not nearly as good as Casino Royale.

this is the first bond movie I have ever seen and as such I have little to compare it too, but I loved the movie. It was action packed and just great all around. I think I will watch the one before this now and maybe look into a few others. Any recommendations, or should I just watch the ones with Craig in them.

Casino Royale is significantly better. A little less of the non-stop action, but a more coherent storyline.

Yeah Casino Royale is great besides the poker scenes. Id stay away from the Brosnan Bonds though. Ive never seen the ones older than that so I cant comment on them.

I don't get the hate on the Brosnan Bonds. He's who I grew up with, or at least who I watched first, so to me, he's typifies what Bond should be.
I enjoyed both of the Craig movies a lot, but it bothers me a bit that there's no gadgets, no Q (or R), or Moneypenny, etc. Were those things just a creation of the film versions with Brosnan, or were they in the older ones and books as well. If they were just in the more recent Brosnan films, then I'd understand getting rid of that theme, but if the books and older ones had them, it's taking away too much of the Bond tradition, imho.
I've seen a few old ones, and I read one of the books, but I don't remember them, for the most part.

From what I hear the Craig films are much more in tune with the Ian Fleming Novels than the Brosnan ones. But even if this is not the case I think the gadgets etc are for the most part very lame.

Maybe I wasn't in the mood to watch this movie but I really didn't enjoy it. It just didn't feel as polished as it could have been. I felt like it was just a bunch of action sequences that were just thrown together in a haphazard way.

Finally watched Casino Royale. It was great. I think I like these bond movies and maybe I should check more of them out. Any suggestions ...?
Also, I got to see Casino Royale because there was a free HBO Preview over the holiday and while perusing through it I also watched the Bourne Ultimatum and there are some similarities between the new bond and those movies. however it seemed that the bourne movies have a way more interesting dynamice that surround it. Thoughts?

The new bond was bleh
I was thinking of investigating the hotel they were at in the end, but it blew up so I'm not staying there.
You young kids need to see all the bonds.
They are all good in their own way.
Sean Connery is great,
Roger Moore is great,
They are all great
Except for Brosnan

What!?! The Bourne movies are great, you should watch the first two immediately and it's really really sad that you already watched the third one, because some stuff got ruined for you.
Also, the old Bond movies will be really good if you liked Quantum of Solace. I thought it was stupid, but if you liked it you will love the old stuff. Start with Live and Let Die and then go to Octopussy.

I like Craig as Bond. But this movie was just Bond as some sort of killing machine. The plot was all over the place and incomprehensible - and expecting us to remember the details at the end of the very long Casino Royale a couple of years ago is a little tough. The parts of the plot that were able to be followed were just stoopid (Bad guy has a front of being an environmentalist, but in reality is stealing water from one of the poorer countries on the Planet, and is going to fund his Billion Dollar empire by getting the CIA to support a Coup to put a dictator (who killed the pretty girl's family) in place and then forcing him to SIGN A CONTRACT for him to supply water to people without any money...
I'm not saying it has to be a Good Plot - it is a Bond film - but this thing is a plot line resembling a ball of yarn strewn all over the floor.
...and they didn't have enough of the hot redhead.

Since my first post in this thread, I've gone on a bit of a Bond binge, as I started collecting the Blu-rays as they're being released.
I've watched and own 14 of the 22 films now, plus the non-Eon remake Never Say Never Again, and I must say, a young Sean Connery is the best.
I don't love Roger Moore's portrayal, but he's not awful.
I've only seen one Dalton movie, and it was so-so.
I liked Brosnan because he's the Bond I grew up with.
I like the new Craig series because they're going back and rebooting the series, so it's kinda interesting to start it all over again. I just hope they find a way to introduce Moneypenny and Q into the films, simply because they're iconic of the series. They're what'll keep the current Bond movies from becoming too generic, and like RAC said, from Bond just becoming a killing machine.
Having said all of that, I enjoy the Craig movies because of the fun ride. I have no problem with slightly confusing plot twists, because I'm the kind of guy who'll sit and watch the movie several times in order to really understand what's going on.
My favorite pre-Brosnan movie so far has been Thunderball, but I did not enjoy the remake as much (Never Say Never Again). Any of the early Connery's have been great, though.

Never checked back in this thread after I made my comment. I guess I should have said rewatched the third bourne movie. I have seen all the bourne movies and love them! The bourne supremacy was on USA the other night and I had to watch some of it. I think I just need to break down and buy the series.
On my bondwatching ... I have still not watched any of the old bond movies. Maybe one day!
