Full Version: Slept On My Arm Yesterday

it was a terrifying experience. I don't think it was the first time I've done it. I get the feeling it would bother me a lot regardless. I thought I felt something strange on my arm, then tried to move it and got no response. I wasn't awake enough to figure the riddle out right away, so I had a mini heart attack over it.

I didnt tell my girlfriend about it because I was worried she might think I am a pansy for being so skittish. in hindsight, it was a cool experience, but I gotta wonder how much damage it does.

after some googling, I have concluded that it probably isn't too harmful. a lot of people seem to have weird nerve problems with their arms during sleep, but this is a circulation thing.

funny how 99%+ of the usefulness of google comes from knowing the right way to ask questions.

How had this never happened to you? It happens to me monthly. You must have some kind of ultra-high-pressure circulatory system; when you have blood drawn, does it spray everywhere like a Tarantino effect?

Definitely happened to me a few times.

your worst decision was missing an opportunity to use the "stranger" technique....

Once I rolled over in my sleep and suddenly felt someone's hand on my face. I quickly went into survival mode grabbing his wrist with my left hand and pulling the arm over my body towards the floor....which I fell onto with a thud. My right arm had fallen asleep.

I almost always wake up on my back. it's super rare that I'm on my stomach with my arm in this awkward position. I haven't had my blood drawn but what you describe would be pretty sweet.

I slept on my back yesterday.

I slept on my bed. I layed on my stomach with my hands under the pillow.

I do this all the time, especially if my pillow isn't supportive enough. I'll end up putting my arm under by head (below the pillow) and I wake up in the middle of the night with a totally asleep. I'm always afraid that one day my arm's just going to fall off or something.

But this happens I'd say about once a week on average to me, which is pretty often. And it's been happening more recently. I think I have poor circulation. My hands and feet are always pretty cold and I often get dizzy when I stand up. So it's probably all related.

I appreciate this very much. I use this reference quite often, and I would say that less than 10% of the time someone gets it.

Probably because, much like this usage, it has no relevance to the conversation at hand.

my reading said that usually it's enough of a circulation loss to cause numbness/loss of control, but not enough for the tissue to die. I don't know.
