Rio 5/10 NLHE (8-handed)

Cobalt $1800
BB $4600

Cobalt is MP1 w/ qh.gif th.gif. I've been pretty TAG and generally get respect. I haven't made really any moves. Table is donkish in spots and fairly loose. BB is relatively loose and has been catching lots of cards and attempting to make thin/big calldowns. UTG is somewhat competent. Button is somewhat LAG, but he shows some caution. There's a Mississippi straddle.

Pre-flop:
SB folds, BB calls, UTG calls, Cobalt calls, 4 folds, Button checks

Flop ($85): jh.gif 6d.gif 4h.gif (4 players)
BB bets $50, 1 fold, Cobalt raises to $150, 1 fold, BB calls

Turn ($385): 3c.gif (2 players)
BB checks, Cobalt bets $225, BB raises to $500, Cobalt ?

I don't know if I'm looking at this the right way, but I like the flop raise. A lot of times, you should take it down right there. When he just calls, most of the time he's checking the turn so you can take a free river card if you want.

I'm curious to know your thinking on raising the flop though because it seems like this is the play you're using so I don't get the $225 bet on the turn. It seems a little weak and 57 just got there. I think if we're going to bet at all, it should be like $300. As played I think we have to call here and fold to a bet on the river ui.

bet, raise, call; check, raise ?
Villain isn't folding, so I kind of hate a shove.
Did we create the right odds to call this?

OOP I probably muck, but here I'd flat call. Your hand doesn't look a ton like a flush draw, so he probably will still pay it off if the flush hits.
CBass1724
I think I would just call and hope to spike the heart on the river. I don't know what he would be check raising with unless he just thought your bet showed weakness. Maybe his 5-7 got there or a nicely disguised set of 4's. Either way we need to hit the river because I don't think he is folding to a shove.

I say just stick it in. I mean, he either has a set and you have outs or he has a hand he can't really call with. It's easier to make hands you can't call with.

I like this play a lot against a different villain. But Cobalt said that he thinks the villain likes to make big/thin calls. I could see him calling with AJ pretty easily.

He's really repping a hand that is 2 pair minimum here and he's probably never folding that if you shove.

See, I take this as meaning he's going to call down, not raise. Thus I stand by my earlier statement: he has a set or nothing.

WTF is a Mississippi straddle anyways?

I'd peel a card. I think it's really unlikely he flopped a set since he just flatted your raise on such a coordinated board. It looks more like he lead with the 75 and then got there on the turn. If that's the case all of your 9 outs are live and you easily have good enough combined pot and implied odds to peel a card. You've represented a strong made hand and if the heart does come he is going to stack off because he won't have been able to put you on a heart draw.

It's a straddle from the button.

It actually costs the SB and BB a pretty large amount of equity.

I was wondering about this funnily enough.

The Rio's the only casino I've ever been to that allows it. Acid's pretty convinced that it's +EV to do every time and I'm inclined to agree with him. You build much bigger pots in position and really screw over the SB and BB. I normally have people attack it like crazy, but surprisingly I got three walks of my MS straddle the other night.

Also, does everyone think that we have the full 9 outs or is it merely 7? Stove gives me an equity of 21.3% against the range that I give him...so we're 3.7-1 to win and we're getting 4-1 to call. Are the RIO bad enough on the 6 and 3 of hearts to still go with it?

For what it's worth, I called here. The river bricked, the guy bet $500, and I folded. He later told me he had 64. (He would've called a shove.)
