If I'm not mistaken, TSN is canadian as well, so it isn't like Canada lost their tradition. Not that that's the main point, though. You said earlier that it's wrong that TSN stepped in with the money and bought the rights. CBC wasn't able or was unwilling to put up the money to retain them. You even drew a comparison to BJ Birdy, a guy with higher financial demands than his current employers were willing to pay. He was essentially a free agent who signed with another organization. As there's no restrictions on a mazimum salary he was able to receive (or any restriction on how much $ could be used to buy the rights to the HNIC song), he can go to whoever throws the most at him. It's capitalism, Serge. You seem to believe that this exact scenario is best for your Toronto Maple Leafs, and that survival of the fittest should be the way to go. Whoever is willing to spend it, should earn the rewards, right? Now why is that suddenly not the case whenever you're on the wrong end of it?
The comparisons are not really fair IMO...HNIC is a CBC tradition, and I am assuming you arent one of us who grew up watching Hockey on Saturday nights and listening to that song....I still think its an irrelevant comparison...But argue it as you wish...
I bet you , you would argue with me if I said that the NHL plays its games on ice.
