Gogo's a beast

Too bad they lost, though. It's good to see that Pittsburgh has quality talent waiting in the wings.

Doesn't always translate into a winning NHL club. The Wolves have been good almost every year the past decade, and look where the Trashers are. It was fun watching the Western Conference finals between Chicago and Rockford though.

Isn't there some type of situation between the AHL affiliate and the Thrashers, though? I remember reading something a while back which explained it. I'm really fuzzy on the details, but I think the AHL team is run more like AHL victories are more important than helping the Thrashers grow talent, and the situation differs from all the other AHL teams.
I hope that makes sense. I wish I knew where I saw this story.

Ok, I just found this article that helps explain what I think I read. It's not the same thing I saw, but close enough:
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/t...shers_0502.htmlA few excerpts:
"Valabik is the Thrashers best defensive prospect, yet loses playing time to minor-league veterans who have little chance of helping the Thrashers in the future."
and
"So what's the problem?
Some would say this: It's a Friday night, and the Wolves are playing Game 2 of a first-round playoff series against the Milwaukee Admirals, the Nashville Predators affiliate. They've recently signed three of the Thrashers top prospects — Angelo Esposito, Spencer Machacek and Riley Holzapfel. Earlier in the day, Esposito shared his aspirations of playing next season with the Thrashers. But on this night, all three elite prospects are in dress clothes watching from the stands. Healthy scratches."

Game 2 summaryGame two was very physical and should make for a very physical series the rest of the way. Chicago outplayed WBS for most of the game, with the Pens goals coming within 2 minutes of each other on a 5-3 pp then the remaining 5-4 pp. Game 3 on Wed. 6/4.

WBS will be in tough... The big team called up Gogo... dunno if he'll be back in time for game 3 or whatever.

What are the rules for this AHL playoffs??I get all confused..What the criteria to be able to play
I know the Leafs had guys like Tlusty,Earl , Battaglia..Whats to stop them from having Mats Sundin(if he was under contract) to suit up for the hell of it??
I am assuming there are rules in place for this

My guess is you need a 2-way contract.

those guys are all on 2 way contracts. sundin, or anyone else on a 1 way deal, would need to clear waivers before they could play.

I'm not sure what NHL Pens are on 2-way contracts but I'm assuming Kennedy/Letang would be eligible to play with WBS. If the NHL Pens would somehow manage to tragically lose tonight thus ending their season I wonder if some of them join WBS. Letang and Kennedy would be quite a boost I would imagine to a team down 2-0.
Another guy I didn't think about is Ty Conklin. I wonder how all this could work out. Do you want to mess with a team that obviously had enough chemistry to make it to the finals?

Goligoski would go back down, i'm guessing.
I haven't heard for sure, but does this mean that Scuderi is out? I saw he got hit hard last game, and then I see Goligoski gets called up.

If Letang and Kennedy played for WBS and then Sterling came back for Chicago, that would make for one helluva best of 3 if WBS can win 2 at home.

My guess on this is that he was called up purely for caution, as Letang was given leave to go to Luc Bourdon's funeral. I wonder if Goligoski is going to stay, given that Gonchar might still be questionable.

Guess not:
PITTSBURGH (TICKER) —The Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday assigned defenseman Alex Goligoski to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
Goligoski, 22, registered two assists and two penalty minutes in three regular-season games for the Penguins.
Recalled to Pittsburgh on June 1, Goligoski has not appeared in a postseason game for the Penguins.
The blue-liner currently ranks second in the AHL playoffs with 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) in 19 postseason games.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has advanced to the Calder Cup Finals vs. the Chicago Wolves.

I figured it would be a different series once the Big Boy Pens ended their run. I noticed that a lot of the WBS fans were wearing white, I wonder if they were the same shirts they wore for the Stanly Cup finals.

It's possible that some people have the same shirts. My guess is that for the most part they just inherited the idea from their parent team. Since the teams are separated by a sub 5 hour drive I would imagine that the majority of the fans attend on or the other, not both.

Jason Krog had an insane regular and post season for the Wolves, leading point scorer and MVP for both. John Anderson now gets to interview for the Thrashers coaching job.

krog absolutely dominates the ahl year after year. it makes no sense to me why a team like the islanders dont make a minor trade to bring him over and then give him serious top 6 minutes, even toronto. its not like they have anything to lose.

The Islanders had him abut 7 or 8 years ago.
