I signed up about a month ago for a local 36 man tourney
They changed a few things right before the tourney started and I wanted to lay out the structure for you comment on:
$1000 - starting chips
7pm - start time
6 ppl per table
5 to 6 ppl at table - 10 ante (everyone at table antes up) no sb / bb
3 to 4 ppl at table - 30 ante (same)
2 ppl at table - 60 ante "
this was changed at the last minute - we then went to small & big blinds
20/30 5-6 ppl
30/40 3-4 ppl
40/60 2 ppl
from 7 until 10 thats how the table was to be ran
at ten the person with the highest chip count from each table made up the final table with 1 random person to be drawn to sit at ft
final table was to start back at 1000 chip count and continue until 1am at which point the person with the highest chip count wins
start time was 7pm , first hand didnt start till 20 after
my table was down to 2 at 930, I ended up with 110 chips more than other player -
two tables still had 6 ppl / 1 table had 5 at 10pm
when cards were dealt , a burn card started the deal = never played that way - you?

lol wtf kinda structure is that??? any tournament that the "time runs out and whoever has the biggest chip count at that point wins" is ridiculous and not worth playing imho

Bad Str. obviously.
What's interesting is the blind increases don't really force any action. Sure, if you have a 350- chips left 30/40 blinds put some pressure on you, but if you still have 1,000 chips, you're in no hurry to move allin.
Basically, unless I got the early double up, I'd be forced to play bingo for the last hour to try to catch the chip leader.
I've seen so many pub leagues with horrible structure put together by "expert" poker players.
